Team trelay - family run park

  • Family-friendly Cornish park 10 minutes’ drive from Looe and Polperro
  • A 10-minute drive to East Looe beach; 25 minutes to Adrenalin Quarry
  • Spacious grass pitches with rural views; 10 minutes’ walk to a pub
If you're tasked with finding a fine location for a family-friendly Cornish getaway, this could be the one. Trelay Holiday Park is 10 minutes’ walk from historic Pelynt (so old it’s mentioned in the Domesday Book, don’t you know), and 10 minutes’ drive from the popular and pretty fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. Peaceful and uncrowded, and surrounded by green fields, this is a fine base for exploring Cornwall. The dog-friendly park has neatly manicured grassy areas planted with lots of trees, and level spacious pitches with electric hook-up for touring caravans and motorhomes. Convenience comes in spades too, with a heated shower block with rainforest showers, laundry facilities and a food-prep room. Reception is manned by welcoming and expert staff between the hours of 10am and 4pm, so go straight there if you have any queries or issues. There’s an out-of-hours number if you have any problems outside those times. Should you run out of supplies while you’re there, simply stroll into Pelynt to the convenience stores or the butchers. Or perhaps you'd like to dodge the cooking completely and simply head to the village pub for wholesome food and a pint of Cornish ale? You are on holiday, after all…

What customers say

This spotless site has lovely grounds and friendly staff. Great location for Looe/Polperro, with a bus stop nearby and dog fields. Downsides: disruptive construction, poor lighting/Wi-Fi, seasonal pitches affecting vibe, and road safety concerns when walking to town.

Liked Lovely pitch. Situated near my daughter and family who were staying in a lodge on site. All amenities were close to our caravan and very clean and well kept. Beautiful surroundings, easy access to the site.lovely helpful staff. Very quiet site.and only a short drive to Looe, good local pub and dog friendly.

Disliked Site is mainly for private owners, with some stunning lodges..although it was a quiet site, mainly we think for this reason, we thought it a bit too quiet..but if you want a peaceful site then definitely worth going here.nothing really to dislike

Liked A very well kept site with excellent staff in a good location and close yo the local village

Disliked If you like a very quite site with little, to no interaction with others this a perfect site for you.

Most of the touring pitches are occupied by seasonal pitched, which the site heavily promotes as the business they want

Liked The holiday park was beautifully kept. The gardens were lovely and colourful, the facilities were clean and spotless, the staff were helpful and friendly. It was lovely and peaceful.

The Jubilee Inn was very close and was a very nice pub. Good food and very friendly staff. The Spar shop in Pelynt was like Aladdin's cave! I even managed to buy pomegranate molasses there!

Disliked Push button showers, however, I could live with them. I also rather disliked the fact that most of the site is taken over by seasonal pitches. That's just a personal thing.

Liked Bus stop outside the campsite (but be warned, the last bus is around 6pm from Looe and Taxi is expensive).
Clean shower blocks and very polite grounds keepers who always spoke to us in the morning.
The holiday home side is spotless with well kept gardens. Touring pitches very flat. Nice pub 10 minutes walk away but be mindful of the speed cars come down the road. We were given alternate directions using the back single track roads but these aren't much safer when faced with a speeding Asda delivery van.
Lovely, helpful staff in reception that recommend walks into both Looe and Polperro.

Disliked Shower blocks were cold, no heat from radiators or underfloor heating - considering it was only 15 degrees outside in July, I would have expected the heating to have been on. Especially as the site is marketed as 5 star luxury pitches. Bus service not as frequent as we thought and stops around 6pm
Continuous building work going on from 7.45am every morning. Diggers and flatbed trucks delivering building materials to the workshop behind reception woke us each day. We had a couple of days of bad weather and couldn't sit in our awning to read or relax because of the noise from angle grinders and power tools coming from the building work directly Infront of our pitch.
Most of the touring pitches have been taken over by seasonal caravans which were mostly empty. Hardly any other holiday makers on the touring side made the campsite feel very depressing and lacking any atmosphere. Lots of the statics were empty or for sale. The site seems very much like an unfinished work in progress.
As the owners obviously knew this work was taking place and has been since June as commented on by a previous review, it would have been nice to have been notified of the noise and given the option to cancel or rearrange our booking.

Local attractions

If the kids are demanding days on the beach, there’s certainly plenty of choice along the southern Cornish coastline. East Looe beach is a favourite for families, with its gently sloping sandy beach – good for youngsters to have a splash around in the water – and the cafés and kiosks selling snacks and ice creams. The twin coves at Talland Bay (both 10 minutes’ drive) are also backed by cafés. If you’re keen to get out on the water itself, hire kayaks at Talland Sand beach and paddle along the stunning coastline. If you’d rather explore on two legs, join the South West Coast Path at Looe to hike an undemanding, relatively flat section of the long-distance hike to Polperro (all 10 minutes). Let the kids burn off energy on the zipwires or clamber over the inflatable aquapark at Adrenalin Quarry (25 minutes), and when only animals will do, take them to the Monkey Sanctuary (20 minutes) to learn about endangered primates and encounter Barbary macaques.
