Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked: A great choice for our first stopover. Very quiet, in a beautiful rural setting, with all the necessary services & amenities we needed. The bonus for us was the proximity of the manor with it's comfortable bar & excellent restaurant/carvery. All the staff there, and on the site, were so friendly and helpful and the quality of the food was outstanding. The "free range" peacocks are an added bonus!

Disliked: The rain!

Just ok but I wouldn't stay again due to toilets, cost and setting.

Liked: Trees around the site. No fuss to pitch up.

Disliked: Toilet block. Womens toilets very wet floor all the time. Sign outside but clearly a problem of water leaking from somewhere. Mens toilets black mould. Didn't shower , didn't feel safe walking around in the toilets. Staff must be aware as they left a sign outside...Very outdated. Could be a lovely site but things just left around like tyres and piles of green stuff. Large bins for rubbish on view. This was the end of the season but still charged £35.. Large pot holes at the entrance. Quite a small compact site, described as no frills, which is true. Need transport to get out and about. I was expecting more, website makes the site a lot nicer than it is.

Liked: Beautiful surroundings, quiet and peaceful just what we were looking for. Staff extremely friendly and helpful and the evening meal we had was to die for!! We even enjoyed hearing the resident peacocks in the morning, much nicer than the seagulls we're used to 😁

Liked: Was a lovely campsite!! Myself and 2 year old absolutely loved staying here!! Seeing the peacocks free roaming was really lovely!! They came right up close and seemed very friendly (brilliant for taking photos, it’s like they’re used to it!!) such posers!! Would 110% be staying here again, even in a thunderstorm as that was incredible (I think because it was further away though, maybe not if it was right above us!!) would definitely recommend to other people and am already planning my next camping trip!! Pitch was really level with electric and water facilities with a nearby toilet/shower block too!! Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome!! Didn’t have wifi but wasn’t expecting a campsite to have any if I’m totally honest!!

Local attractions

There’s masses to do around and about the campsite, with pony rides and fishing in the grounds of Great Trethew Manor Hotel, but a day out on the zipwires and go karts at Adrenalin Quarry (five minutes’ drive) is surely on the cards for the kids. Another Cornish big hitter is the Eden Project (40 minutes), where futuristic biospheres house an ever-changing landscape of flowers and plants. In less than 20 minutes, you’ll hit the spectacular Cornish coastline, where you can paddle in the sea off tiny coves and go crabbing in rockpools with the kids. Teens might like to catch a few surfing waves or take jetski safaris along the coastline. On more sedate days trips, you can feast on delicious seafood in the cute fishing village of Looe (15 minutes) or – further afield but worth the dramatic drive – stand on the southernmost tip of England at Land's End (an hour and 40 minutes).
