  • Peaceful and dog-friendly family-run site in the village of Delabole
  • Port Isaac and Trebarwith beach 10 minutes' drive; 20 mins to Polzeath
  • Two local pubs, a shop and bus services within a short walk
Cornwall’s countryside is just as lovely as its coastline, and you’ll be in prime position to explore both when you stay at Blackthorn Campsite, a family-run site in the village of Delabole. This lovely location is both peaceful and convenient – there are farm animals to meet on site, and the place is surrounded by rural footpaths where you (and your dog, if you’ve got a well-behaved one that you’d like to bring) can get out for a walk. It’s not a remote place though, as it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the village’s shop, two pubs and bus stop (for services to all sorts of places including Bodmin, Wadebridge and Port Isaac). Getting out to explore north Cornwall is easy from this location as lots of top coastal spots are a short drive away, including Boscastle, Tintagel Castle and the fabulous Polzeath beach, a surfers’ hotspot, and the wild landscapes of Bodmin Moor are close by as well. Back at base, things have been kept nice and simple with just the essential facilities in place – you’ll have access to drinking water, toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a grey water/chemical toilet disposal point. Barbecues and firepits are permitted as long as they’re kept off the ground.

What customers say

This quiet, well-kept campground has clean amenities, including hot showers, and lovely sites. Guests enjoyed the friendly owners, on-site animals, and peaceful country setting, a short drive from places like Padstow. A few noted limited facilities and close-by sites, but most found it a gem for a relaxing getaway.

Queen power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked A peaceful pleasant location with generous pitches.

A very friendly owner greeted us upon arrival & attended promptly when we had an issue with the EHU at night.

Donkeys goats & chickens are a nice touch, especially for families with small children.

Okay for an en-route stopover .

Disliked Just the one toilet / shower & one separate WC. Not the fault of the site but the person before me left the shower dirty with muddy footprints everywhere.

Hard to find from the main road, drove past the end of the lane twice. Look for the industrial units.

Somewhat expensive for the facilities provided when you can get everything this site offers (apart from the ehu) in Tintagel car park for £6 per night.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re a small, peaceful site with only 5 pitches, so 2 toilets and 1 shower are usually sufficient, we’re upgrading to 3 showers and 4 toilets this winter to accommodate more guests and pitches. Our prices reflect the space, views, and tranquillity we offer—not a crowded “car park style” campsite—and unlike many others, we don’t charge extra for facilities. The details are clearly listed on Pitch up, so we’re sorry if it wasn’t what you were looking for.

Gorgeous site run by very friendly people.

Liked Peaceful, clean site which felt secluded but was close to local amenities. Very basic but clean facilities. We were lucky to have perfect weather.

Queen power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Large gravel pitch!

Disliked There was only one shower and two toilets for the whole site — completely inadequate and always busy. The place was extremely boring with absolutely nothing to do. The so-called village pub nearby should honestly close its doors; the food was vile and barely edible. Even the local shop felt stuck in the past, outdated and poorly stocked. Overall, I would not recommend staying here.

From the manager: Hi Lisa
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that our campsite didn’t meet your expectations. We’d like to reassure you that our facilities are regularly cleaned and maintained, and many of our visitors value the peace and tidiness of the site.

Ours is not a large commercial park with entertainment or busy facilities, but rather a small, quiet village location where guests come to relax and enjoy the calm surroundings. We understand this may not be the right fit for everyone, but we’re glad we can provide the kind of atmosphere that many of our regular guests appreciate.

We wish you well in finding a site and location better suited to your preferences in the future.

Queen power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Rural site with good quality shower / toilet facilities and dishwashing area. All perfectly clean. Within walking distance to a local pub, The Bettle and Chissel.

Disliked Pitches a little close together as caravans and awnings spread out, so it feels a tad claustrophobic. No off-lead dog walk on site.

Queen power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Peace and quiet, very clean facilities, large pitches.

Disliked Tiny, if spotlessly clean, toilet facility. Shower gave a choice of a hot dribble or cold with decent pressure. (I opted for lukewarm.)

Local attractions

Which way first? The coast is a big draw for most visitors here – and rightly so, as it’s rather spectacular. Perhaps start with a trip to Trebarwith beach (10 minutes’ drive), a family-friendly spot with plenty of sandy space and rockpools to poke around in. After that, maybe over to Daymer Bay (25 minutes) to stroll through the sand dunes or to Polzeath (20 minutes) to give your surfboard some action. Elsewhere along the coast, you could visit popular Port Isaac (10 minutes), which found fame as the setting for the TV series Doc Martin, or learn about all sorts of intriguing goings-on at The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle (20 minutes). There’s also Tintagel Castle (20 minutes), an English Heritage site with a stunning clifftop location and links to Arthurian legend. Turning inland, you’d be wise to spend some time exploring Bodmin Moor, perhaps climbing Brown Willy (35 minutes) for views from the highest point in Cornwall, or visiting Bodmin Jail Attraction (half an hour) for an insight into the prisons of the past (and their ghostly inhabitants…)
