Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely simple campsite, beautiful country setting, close to beaches and town (within walking distance, and easy by bike) but feels secluded and peaceful. Nice clean toilets and hot showers with a friendly, helpful and welcoming host. Would definitely visit again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: A friendly, attractive site. Amazing location- within walking distance to 2 beaches and a beautiful beachside cafe (Dip and Sea). Onsite owner very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. Very modern toilets and showers cleaned regularly and thoroughly. Level pitches. Great value.Thank goodness there was a 'quiet after 10' policy because we had a very noisy and disrespectful group across from us.

Disliked: There's nowhere currently to wash up, except a cold water tap. The owner said the site is relatively new and said further facilities will come soon. He was keen to make sure campers were happy, so I think he will be installing a washing up station as soon as he can.

From the manager: Hi there We are sad to see this review as we wish people look at what they are booking before they pay. We do not advertise or offer any showers. The toilets get cleaned twice a day, so turning up in the evening may result in some bad luck with how they are left by others. The steward is on site most of the day and close by in the evening. Thanks Wildly

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Good flat pitches with the chance to find some shelter from the wind if needed. Well connected by walking along the lanes to Bude, but also Northcott beach and Poughill where there’s a good pub. Limited facilities this year (2023) but that suited us for a night, would happily return. Small suggestion: the pitches are numbered so being assigned a number pre arrival would be handy so you can crack on in the knowledge you’re where you should be.

Local attractions

Bude is a well-liked seaside hub, with several top-quality sandy beaches, a wide range of independent shops and a number of well-regarded surf schools that will help you take your first steps on the board. Other top leisure options include golf clubs with sea views, offshore fishing charter trips and, if you really want to slow the pace down, beach hut rental, which is available by the day. For days out of town, simply set out north from the site, taking the South West Coast Path into the gorgeous Hartland Heritage Coast area (about a mile from base). Walk the 45 minutes across the cliff tops to Sandymouth Bay, or pack a picnic and press on to Duckpool beach (an hour and 20 minutes on foot), a remote mix of sand and shingle that's bound to be even quieter. Being in such a central location opens up explores further afield as well: other north Cornwall gems like Boscastle (30 minutes) and Tintagel (40 minutes) if you want to head west, while Devon sights like Clovelly (30 minutes) and Bideford (40 minutes) lie in wait to the east and north.
