Primitive forest floor tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Peaceful and sheltered. Owner very helpful - took our stuff to the pitch site as it was a little muddy for my car. Beautiful countryside and walks all around.

Disliked: Nothing really. It was very muddy and the tap was right by the biggest puddle so maybe that needs moving but would not hesitate to stay there again.

Local attractions

The grasslands, wetlands and wildflower meadows at RSPB Pulborough Brooks (five minutes’ drive) attract lapwings, ducks and dragonflies, plus small falcons. There's more birdlife at Amberley Wild Brooks (10 minutes), a nature reserve on the banks of the River Arun. Discovered by chance in the early 19th century, Bignor Roman Villa (15 minutes) was probably the home of an aristocratic family. It’s renowned for its well-preserved floor mosaics, including one portraying fighting gladiators in full armour, and for the ruins of an underfloor heating system. There are also displays of excavated objects such as helmets. With the West Sussex coast about half an hour away, it would seem churlish not to spend a day at the seaside. Backed by sandy dunes, Littlehampton’s dog-friendly West Beach is popular for swimming and fishing; or you can head to Worthing for a stroll along the 19th-century pier and fish and chips on the shingle.
