  • No-frills site with spacious pitches and views over the High Weald
  • A 35-minute drive to South Downs National Park; Horsham five minutes
  • Secluded camping field with shower block and overnight quiet time
Popcorn Camping Horsham is a spacious, no-frills site with spectacular views over the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Thanks to its peaceful rural setting, there’s plenty of space for kids and dogs to run around, plus a dedicated play area to kick a ball around. Seaside Worthing is 40 minutes’ drive from this West Sussex site, for family days out paddling in shallow waves or strolling along the pier in fresh sea air. Closer to base, you can be on easy walking paths in St Leonard’s Forest in 10 minutes, and hardy hikers can jump on the South Downs Way for challenging hilltop routes and spectacular views. A gateway to prehistoric settlements and wildfowl wetlands in the South Downs National Park, the historic market town of Petworth is well worth a visit in its own right for its tangle of cobbled streets and arty shops. There are plenty of traditional thatched pubs (the closest being less than a mile away) around serving up tasty food and wine from local vineyards. If you'd rather go down the alfresco cooking route, pick up bits to grill on the barbecue (bring your own from home) in Horsham. As for practicalities back at base, facilities include hot showers and loos in the changing areas, washing-up points and drinking water. There are plenty of plug sockets available so you can charge phones. You’re ensured a good night’s sleep too, as site rules ask for quiet time between 10:30pm and 8am please.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lots of space as wasn’t too busy

Disliked: Lack of management and instructions. On arrival we had no idea where we were allowed to pitch, so went to a clear space. Later in the evening, we were approached to tell us we couldn’t park our car where we were and then, about an hour later, were told we couldn’t pitch our tent where we were, either. We therefore had to move our 12 person tent across the field to some free space. Fortunately we were allowed to finish eating dinner before moving! It would have been good to have instructions before arrival, as well as taping off areas which were not suitable for pitching. Facilities were fine & were simply converted sports changing rooms with added partitions for showers. Water for washing up was cold and directly piped from an outside tap, so nothing was properly cleaned.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Amazingly located on the edge of the magnificent St. Leonard's Forest, lots of deer. Great showers and toilets.

Disliked: There didn't seem to be anyone from Popcorn Camping on-site, which made us nervous about the lack of authority to deal with any potential issues with campers breaking the rules

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Big field, plenty of space to choose from. Good toilet facilities.

Disliked: Shower temperature was a little too hot and the showers didn't stay on for longer than 30 seconds so kept having to restart. Also, the lights into the toilet areawere sensors and would go off quickly, meaning you were often doing your business in the dark if you were in there alone! Drinking water area could have been higher up, cleaner. I was also under the impression there was a cafe area on site for breakfast, but nothing was open, except the bar in the afternoon whilst we were there.
