Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Super relaxed, loads of space, other campers friendly and quiet. Kids adored playing on haybales! Alpacas and sheep were really cute and the toilets were clean. We a preciated the extra portaloo at the far end of the field.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Everything! Jackie and Mark are excellent hosts, friendly and on hand if you need anything. The area for camping is huge and the shower/toilet facilities spotless. The horsebox kitchen is very useful with fridge/freezer and sockets for charging phones if you need to.. We loved the sheep and alpacas and also the ducks wandering around the site.. It was great to watch children from all different families play for hours on the haybales in the field. This site is an absolute gem and is situated in a good location for visiting Rye, Hastings, Dungeness and many other lovely towns/villages and beaches.. We will definitely be returning to Setts Wood!

Disliked: nothing!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Owners were super friendly, the field couldn’t have been better. Having the animals roaming around whilst you’re camping was such a nice touch, showers and toilets were super clean. So much space so you don’t feel on-top of other campers. Location great a nice walk to the village which has lots to do. Highly recommended would definitely com back.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Relaxed feel, sheep, alpacas and ducks. Short grass makes camping easier. The children loved the hay bales to build a fort and climb on. Lots of space, free to choose your own pitch. Shower was good.

Disliked: One shower was a bit of a nuisance, but it sounds like there will be a second one next summer 🎉

Local attractions

Join the steam railway at Tenterden (five minutes' drive) or Romney Marsh (20 minutes) and stop off at a reel of historic towns. Find your end destination in Hastings (45 minutes), where you can visit the underground tunnels of smugglers' old haunts, roam the ruins of an 11th-century Norman castle or stay in the modern-day with a stroll along the amusement pier. Play like royalty in more turrets and ruins, including Bodiam Castle (25 minutes), Sissinghurst Castle (20 minutes) and Leeds Castle (35 minutes). Or perhaps turn towards the historic towns of Tenterden (five minutes) and Rye (20 minutes) or the landscaped gardens at the fanciful Hole Park (15 minutes) and Great Dixter House & Gardens (25 minutes). Smallhythe Place (10 minutes) is another enticing site, with a 16th-century cottage that was once the home of a famous actress. Red or white? Let your tastebuds decide at local vineyards including Chapel Down Tenterden Vineyard Park (15 minutes), Gusbourne Estate Vineyard (10 minutes) and Biddenden (15 minutes). If the animals on site have you craving more, Port Lympne Safari Park (half an hour) should fit the bill.
