Liked: The Firs fishery and campsites, is one of the nicest I've been too. Quite and pitches tidy. Margaret and Stuart are super friendly. Fishing was very enjoyable. (Thanks for the hook). Will definitely be returning.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, other than haven't to leave.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: *#*#* ROOF TOP TENTS ARE ACCEPTED AT THIS SITE*#*#* (Apologies for the caps but Pitchup don't mention RTT or have it as a category and they should. Fellow RTTers you're welcome here). A warm welcome upon arrival with clear guidance to our pitch and a WIFI password, the pitch next to us was reserved for our friend who was joining us later that day which was fantastic, just as we had requested. The site is very well looked after with perfectly mowed lawns, very well maintained lakes that are full of fish and banks with a few picturesque swims (for the fishermen). The site facilities, while basic, are very well kept, clean and well stocked. Our party set out to do nothing more than relax, this is exactly what we got to do in a beautiful setting with friendly hosts.

Disliked: These aren't really dislikes, more things that could be developed in the future to make this site go from 100% to 110%. Only one toilet, No shower facilities, (definitely could fit these ideas in the room where the toilet is). Dooley the DJ in the distance ;)

From the manager: Thanks for the review, nice to meet you all, and you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again, hope you were singing along,,,,, he likes a party at the bank holidays, take care Regards Stuart

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Close to tunnel, it was fine for what we needed. Pitch is within view of the owners house but that didn’t bother us - it may some. There were bins and a toilet and sink. No shower or washing up area - but this wasn’t expected.

From the manager: Marking us down because you didn't read the site details correctly is un fair, we make it clear what is, and what is not available.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Friendly owners and clean facilities

Disliked: It was like camping in someone's garden with the pitch facing there house

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for doing a review but we are disappointed at your comments. We checked each day of your stay to make sure all was ok for you. It is clear when booking our site that we do not have showers, we do not take children, and marking low accommodation is strange as it was your tent.... I wish people would check what is or is not available when booking, our site clearly is not for everyone.

Local attractions

There's a reason Kent is known as the 'Garden of England', you know: this part of the world is home to well-kept man-made landscapes and vistas of rolling farmland. Fans of the former may well appreciate teeing off at the local golf club (10 minutes' drive) or heading down to the Royal Military Canal (10 minutes) for bike rides along the water's edge. Rural ramblers, meanwhile, should check out the four-mile Wye Downs circular walk (25 minutes). If you'd like to make friends with some cute farm animals on your rural break, pay a visit to the Rare Breeds Centre (10 minutes). Meanwhile, for a sense of the area's history, stop by at stunning Bodiam Castle (30 minutes) – a proper castle, with a moat to cross and everything. Like to be beside the seaside? Dungeness' marshland landscape is home to abundant birdlife (pack your binoculars and head to the RSPB reserve to find out more), as well as an old lighthouse and the largest shingle beach in Europe (25 minutes). Head to the two genteel towns of Rye and Winchelsea, meanwhile, for castle ruins, independent book shops and vineyards, or scamper over to the dunes at Camber Sands (all around half an hour's drive).
