  • Peaceful, rural family site 20 minutes' drive from Ashford
  • A 15-minute drive to a rare breeds centre; Dymchurch beach 35 minutes
  • In Bethersden, five minutes' walk from a pub; opposite a fishery
When your idea of heaven is staying in the quiet Kent countryside, Wildside Camping and Glamping may be just the place for you. With fields sheltered by mature trees and a handmade toilet and shower block with double family-sized LED rainforest showers, the site is on a family-run farm on the outskirts of pretty Bethersden village, easily accessible from Ashford (20 minutes’ drive) and all its amenities. Rural surroundings include acres of fields with horses grazing in them, and plenty of woodland for hikes. If you get lucky, you might see wild deer on your escapades – and keen anglers can hotfoot it down to the fishing lakes opposite the camping field (extra costs involved) to try their luck with the trout. Having small children themselves, the owners have added family toilet seats for small children and games such as ping pong and badminton to their facilities. Firepits and firewood can be hired on site, and once you’ve settled in on site, you can pre-book packed lunch or tea and cakes to keep the wolves at bay. While barbecues are allowed, please ensure they are put on bricks (which can be collected by the gate) and don’t dispose of them while they are hot. Alternatively, if you’d rather someone else did the cooking, there are a couple of gastro-pubs in Bethersden. The nearest is just five minutes' walk away (at the end of the lane). A dairy farm selling ice cream and fresh milk is under five minutes' drive away too. As this is such a peaceful spot, the owners ask that there is no amplified music.

Bell tent (medium)

Liked: Loved the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Camp site was on a vast field. They had 2 horses which you can feed with carrots, kids were thrilled. Also had games (table tennis, badminton, etc) which we all enjoyed. Very clean toilets. Hannah was a lovely host which made sure our stay was enjoyable. They only accept cash so be prepared to bring in some money. Able to park and camp fire beside the tent. The bell tent was lovely and spacious enough for the 4 of us. Had a small fridge which was very useful for us. Clean beddings, floor fan was also very useful. Wifi was strong enough for our mobile phones. Overall was a lovely one night getaway. Highly recommended!

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Great owners friendly vibe on the site

Disliked: Not a dislike as such because we were in a van but maybe another toilet block could be added to the site

From the manager: Thanks Gary, i plan to double up next year - was taken by a bit of a storm of people on bank holiday! I actually shut down further bookings earlier that week! Make our toilet shower block look like a shepards hut too ❤️ An emergency port a loo will also be added! Amazingly no “ great British queue” though ! Was great to meet you. Thanks for coming 🥰

Quiet, personable, back to basics ❤️

Bell tent (large)

Liked: The welcome… she really has a lovely demeanour and is so approachable and helpful. Seems like nothing is too much to ask. The large bell tent is awesome. Space, amenities and cleanliness. This is a new set up and by her willingness to sort things out for you, she will definitely excel ❤️ Very basic site for now!!

Disliked: Not really a dislike but the site is new and lots of learning curves and teething problems but we sincerely hope it goes from strength to strength.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The best camping spot I have ever seen in the entire county. Perfect location with a beautiful, natural view. I could even see the Milky Way galaxy at night. The host will take care of you and ensure you are happy and satisfied with your camping experience. Recommended for families and children. I will definitely come again Many activities are available in the local area. The facilities are very clean.the pitch's perfectly level. you can play football there

Disliked: Nothing! Everything's perfect

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet, relaxing and a very clean well run campsite. Toilets were kept clean and always had a nice fresh smell everytime you went to use them. Campsite also has wifi which was amazing since the Olympics were on.

Disliked: Being told to move in a field that appeared to say pitch any where which wasnt the case.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Single mum with older kids but felt safe. Tranquil and peaceful setting. Lots of space per pitch The owners are very attentive without being in your face. Loo block was basic (will be updated) but always spotless and well stocked with loo roll and soap etc. Hannah, the owner, has produced a leaflet with various local attractions some of which are not expensive for a cheap getaway.

Disliked: There is, understandably, no hot water at the washing up station. Not a massive amount to do within walking distance (unless you want the pub or to hike) but well appointed for car journeys.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet location Hosts were friendly and helpful, told us of things to do in the area Lots of ball games on the field to play with Pub very close by (walkable, 15mins) and village shop (drivable, 5mins)

Disliked: No hot water for washing up No freezer for ice packs (only able to freeze through hosts freezer, so only accessable when they were around) Only one unisex shower and 2 unisex toilets, this is fine other than it was a very small space and felt and bit uncomfortable sharing No bins for rubbish (had to take it all away apart from food waste)

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The experience was just fantastic, such a lovely couple who own the farm and could not have been more helpful, and you could tell cared about your stay and experience! The campsite was lovely, great spacing between the pitches and the place just had a really nice atmosphere, birds singing, children playing in the long grass, horses in the next field; it was a nice escape from the modern world. My partner and I will definitely be back.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great space. Lovely clean toilets and showers. Great welcome from Hannah who gave us lots of info on places to visit in the local area. We had a great time & will be back!

Disliked: Not a dislike, but the entrance to the site is quite hidden amongst the bushes so we missed it initially - noticed a couple of other cars who did the same. Maybe a bolder and bigger sign would be beneficial :)
