  • Grass pitches at a 21-acre farm site in the Weald of Kent
  • A 10-minute drive from Headcorn Aerodrome and Sissinghurst Castle
  • Quiet site with ponds on site; two miles from High Halden and A28
Brickhouse Farm has grass pitches within the grounds of a farm in the Weald of Kent two miles from the village of High Halden, and about 15 minutes’ drive from Ashford. Accessed via a quiet country lane but close to the A28, this is a site that’s part of a 21-acre farmstead made up of pastureland and fishing ponds. At the centre of the property is a Grade II listed farmhouse, and there’s also a classic Kentish barn on site along with an assortment of farm buildings. The pitches here are simple in style but with access to water, a cesspit and a toilet and shower block that’s been done up to a very high standard. Barbecues are permitted (pick up supplies 10 minutes away on Tenterden’s lovely high street) and the area’s peppered with pubs catering for all tastes, styles and price levels. It’s easy to fill your days with fresh air around here – there are plenty of places to stroll or cycle in the nearby High Weald National Landscape, and a couple of golf courses within a few minutes’ drive. If you’re feeling brave perhaps fling yourself out of a plane at Headcorn Aerodrome; if not, perhaps sampling the wine at the local vineyard would be more your style. Other days out? Maybe gorgeous Leeds Castle, a shopping spree at Ashford’s designer outlets or a big cat encounter at an animal park? Or of course you could head down to Ashford and jump on the high-speed train for a trip to London – the capital’s only about 35 minutes away.

What customers say

Brickhouse Farm: Beautiful, peaceful 21-acre spot with spacious, level sites. Guests rave about friendly owner Gill, clean facilities (hot showers!), and tranquil ponds. Some noted dry ground, wishing for a freezer/charging. Minor points on pitch placement and peak-time facility tidiness.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The space was great as there were only us and one other tent for the majority of our stay. The sunsets and nature are lovely. We spent a couple of nights stargazing with the kids. The geese were friendly and the fish were great to watch.

Disliked There was no check in process and no one to greet us on arrival until we called into the adjacent cottage door on 2 occasions. The showers and toilets could have been nice however they were not cleaned for the duration of our stay. This is also the same for the washing up sink which had food around the plug hole. We found the ground uneaven and heavily cracked (due to the hot summer) which was treacherous for the toilet trek at night. We were told to pitch up right at the back of the field but not under trees which would have provided much needed shelter from the sun and was also a long way from the facilities as the host did not want us near the ponds for safety. We are quite private people so found the daily visits from the host a bit too much. For the price (£164 for 4 nights) I would expect more.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Everything !!!
Greeted by Gill and shown to our large pitch. Site was perfect for us, quiet and plenty of room.toilets were ample and clean.
Few ponds spread around the site so kids would need constant supervision.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Wonderfully quiet and beautiful campsite, plenty of space between pitches, fish food available for £1, spotless toilets and showers, attentive and thoughtful host. Brilliant campsite!

We stayed for a long weekend as a large family group with young children and teenagers and visited the Weald of Kent Steam show just 10 mins down the road on our way home.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The Shack was absolutely lovely, really cosy and had everything you needed for a few nights stay. We were privileged to be the first people to stay in it since it was renovated.
The bed was super comfortable and we just loved sitting out the front, over the pond, under the roof and watching the huge fish cruise around. Touches such as leaving a bag of fish food for guests to feed the fish really made it a great place to stay.
A little wood burner and newly fitted kitchenette meant everything was on hand - definitely a big step up from camping!! The hostess was fabulous and made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble :)
A cute mezzanine over the bed, furnished with lots of cushions, meant there was a cosy little hideaway for reading or just chilling.
Everything was sparkling clean and cosy, I highly recommend The Shack for anyone looking for a quiet few nights away. Tenterden is a short drive away and has some great eating and drinking venues as well as many unique and independent shops. Our stay was top notch all round!

Disliked We suggested a couple of shelves could be put up to create a little more storage space, but other than that there was nothing to dislike!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked A second visit to this huge open camping space, lots of privacy and never overcrowded. The facilities are much nicer than those on a regular campsite. It was lovely to spend the hot evenings sitting by the ponds feeding the fish. Gillian is the most wonderful human and host, she genuinely cares for all her customers. It was a joy to see her again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet and small site with immaculately clean facilities. The site has ponds with fish to look at.
The camp field is used to grow hay and once harvested becomes the camp site. Some uneven ground and a few spikey thick plants which could damage the tent if you’re not careful so check pitch before putting tents up.
Host is super friendly.
For a quiet no frills camping experience, I highly recommend.
