  • Dog-friendly yurt in a peaceful field on a farm in Godshill
  • Lots of walking trails nearby; a 15-minute drive from Blackgang Chine
  • Woodburning stove, firepit, mezzanine and a shower with a glass roof
Getting back to nature without giving up any creature comforts is what Wood Farm does well. After winding your way along a boardwalk, you’ll reach a yurt set in a field with views over the countryside. With a woodburning stove and excellent craftsmanship, the yurt handles the warmth and comfort, while the surrounding countryside provides the scenery and peace and quiet. Regardless of the many luxury touches, this is absolutely a back to nature stay. The copper-clad shower pod has a glass dome roof for stargazing. There’s also a firepit in what the site calls the ‘tree field’ to gather around in the evening. Take your meals on the deck at the front of the pod, which is kitted out with furniture and a barbecue. With a mezzanine floor and a seven-metre diameter, the yurt is spacious indeed. The owners have worked very hard to make it comfortable. There are four single beds on the mezzanine and one kingsize bed in the main area, and all of the bedding is 100% cotton. There are also radiators to take the edge off before you get the stove going. A well-equipped kitchen with an oven, hob and hot running water means you can easily prepare full meals too. Directly off from the main pod are two smaller pods, one with a toilet and basin and the other with the shower. Up on the main farm, there’s also a handy laundry room and an honesty shop selling snacks, wood, eggs and other essentials. The peaceful spot is fab for spotting wildlife like hares, red squirrels and barn owls. Godshill village’s pubs, cafés, gift shops, post office, small grocery shop and model village are only 15 minutes’ walk away for other needs aside from wildlife watching. The village is excellent as a base for exploring the island, with Blackgang Chine and Shanklin Chine a short drive away and plenty of walks nearby.
