  • Isle of Wight park with spectacular views and top-notch facilities
  • Relax in the garden conservatory or run amok with the kids
  • Shower and bathroom facilities with underfloor heating
'The best campsite we've ever stayed at' is just one of the excellent accolades piled upon the Isle of Wight's The Orchards Holiday Park, where guests feel in firm agreement with The Orchards' assessment of its facilities as 'top-notch'. Said facilities include toilets, showers, a family-sized bathroom and a washing-up area and launderette, all with underfloor heating. During busier times, the site also opens up a ladies' vanity area, a family shower room, a baby-changing room and wheelchair-accessible amenities. Things are top-notch leisurewise too, with a heated outdoor pool open from late May to late August, an indoor pool open all season, a poolside coffee shop, pool and ping pong tables and a recreation area. There are two play areas – one for under-fives and one for older kids – as well as a dog exercise area. And the views, the location and the atmosphere here all regularly get top billing here as well: The Orchards is a relaxed and friendly park with an amicable and helpful team, set near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight's western rural side and coming with first-rate views (this is among the most scenic washing up you'll ever do). Finally, if you want to take the hassle out of ferry bookings on your journey to and from the island, the Orchards team can help arrange your travel: just let them know after you book.

Liked: Really clean, warm and great facilities. Love the radio station playing and the large clean showering cubicles.

Disliked: Lawn mowing in the early morning, especially as most campers are on holiday.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I'm pleased to hear the facilities were to your liking. The grounds team are not supposed to start preparing pitches until after their morning tea break at 10 so they shouldn't start mowing until 1030 at the earliest. They do need to get the pitches ready for the incoming guests at 2pm and if they can be ready sooner everyone likes an early check in. I will have a word with the team to ensure they are not starting earlier than this. I'm pleased to note that you would visit us again.

Liked: Showers nice and clean, plenty of hot water. Staff friendly and helpful. Indoor pool lovely. Very tidy site, flat pitches.

Disliked: No pub within walking distance.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We do lack a pub in the village, the Horse & Groom is a 30 minute walk away and the Sun at Calbourne is on our regular bus route. We hope you will visit us again.

Liked: Facilities! Pools were both really good. Staff very friendly.

Disliked: I know its out of your control but the people that turned up on the tent pitch next to us were so noisy, playing music till late, had fire pit with smoke blowing into our tent. This should have been policed better and they should have been warned but got away with it. If i was staying all week we have packed up and left but thankfully it was only 1 night we had to endure.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our park. We are sorry to hear that you were disturbed by some inconsiderate guests. We don't have the man power to patrol the park after the office closes. There is always a phone number displayed on the reception door if you have any "out of hours" problems, if we are made aware we will have a word with them. We do ask guests to adhere to our quiet times between 11pm and 7am but sadly there will always be a minority ruining it for the majority. It's a shame that you don't want to visit again as we would love to welcome you back.

Liked: Site was very clean tidy and quiet. We had a hardstanding pitch with electric hook up. It was good almost perfectly level and plenty of space for our van and awning. Staff were polite friendly and helpful. We booked at the end of the season and the site shuts down at the end of October so we were one of 8 vans staying there. Site is very quiet at night and very dark. Facilities were scaled back due to reduced numbers of guests but the shop indoor pool, central showers wash up and self service laundry were all open and spotlessly clean and tidy. There are no off site local facilities in the area.Good facilities for kids. Areas to exercise dogs on site and easy access to walks nearby. Bus stop right outside the site has regular busses even on Sundays. Would certainly recommend and look to stay again.

Liked: Indoor and outdoor pool were free to use unlike lots of other sites where you have to pay extra. The play park was enjoyed by our kids too. Quiet campsite lovely apple trees and views of the countryside.

Disliked: Perhaps when more people are staying facilities would have been too busy, we had to wait a while before being allowed into the outdoor pool as it was a nice day. Maybe timed entry or booking would be better?

Powered grass campsite

Liked: This is a lovely campsite with spacious tent pitches. The shower and toilet facilities are fabulous with added separate cubicles for brushing teeth/make-up/dry hair. The washing-up facility has everything you need, from several sinks to washing machines/tumble driers and extra accesible showers and the view from the windows will make you put your hands up for washing up everytime there are dishes to be done. There are two swimming pools- we mostly used the indoor one as that felt warmer but the outdoor looked great too. The view is lovely from this campsite and everything is within easy reach, incl shop and playrooms (pool, table tennis). Overall this campsite has everything you need for a comfortable camping holiday.

Disliked: I am giving 5 stars overall as we had a great time on this campsite using many of their fabulous facilities. If you are after a quieter camping experience, this place feels a busy one and some of the pitches, like the one we got, are very near the toilet/shower and pool facilities. There are hedges in front of the shower/toilet blocks but around these pitches it gets very busy with people walking/running and being generally noisy. Regarding the pool, we met three members of staff, and two of them were not the friendliest. The lady however was very kind and helpful.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. Being aimed at families we are extremely busy in August and unfortunately not all guests have good camping etiquette. If you would like to visit us again please feel free to give us a call and discuss your requirements and we may be able to allocate a pitch which is less "busy". I am disappointed that two out of three pool staff were not as friendly as they should be and will be " having a word" to ensure they are better in the future. We look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

The Orchards Holiday Park is in west Wight, the more quiet and rural part of the island, but you won't have far to drive to get to all the other islandy attractions ('tis not a big place, the Isle of Wight). And even better news: The Orchards has discount deals arranged for guests with many of the local pubs and attractions. Staying west, miles of pathways can be investigated from the park by foot or pedal (maps as well as details on the team's favourite walks can be found at the park reception), as well as hikes along the coastline with wight pretty scenery and views of the Solent. The sandy beaches of Brook and Compton are a short drive away, as is Newtown Creek, a National Trust nature reserve brimming with birds, butterflies and boat photo opportunities. Also have a look at Chessell Pottery Barns, the Yarmouth outlet with gallery, activities, gift barn and café; or, for history, Calbourne Water Mill and Rural Museum, and the holiday home of Queen Victoria, Osborne House in East Cowes.
