  • Family-friendly site two miles from the New Forest National Park
  • A five-minute drive from Fordingbridge; 35 minutes from Bournemouth
  • Well-behaved dogs welcome; pubs, cafés and shops in Fordingbridge
What’s a recipe for an excellent New Forest getaway? A healthy dose of walks and outdoor activities and a nearby peaceful base are certainly going to be two essential ingredients – and for the second, you need not look further than Nige’s Camping, a family-friendly site two miles from the national park border. Surrounded by lush greenery and made up of a flat open space where families can unwind, this particular formula is a very good fit for families. All pitches are of the grassy sort, set within a spacious field. Well-behaved dogs are a welcome piece of the puzzle too, but must be kept on a lead due to the free-range sheep and chickens roaming the grounds. When it comes to tracking real-life recipes for your dinner, there are cosy pubs in Fordingbridge five minutes’ drive or 25 minutes’ walk way. Alongside the River Avon, the town has a late-medieval seven-arch bridge and shops, restaurants and pubs. Deserving of a mention by the owners are the typically British fare at one hotel, authentic Italian cuisine in another restaurant, a riverside dining spot and great Indian dishes (just ask them for more details on these once you roll up). As endearing as those good eats may be, other attractions (not of the food type) include New Forest Water Park 10 minutes’ drive away and the seaside resort of Bournemouth 35 minutes’ drive away. Also within driving distance of the site are the likes of theme parks, historical sites and beaches.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Loved the location, facilities, rope swing and play area. Dot cam over to make sure all OK and Nige came over too. Very friendly campsite in a lovely location. Walked up the footpath to the disused railway track. Toilet paper always refilled and always very clean. Highly recommend. Even ordered a Thai from the Thai kitchen as recommended feom Niges camping Facebook page! Had amazing Sunday roast in The Fighting Cock. Would 100% come back here.

Disliked: Nothing!

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked: Despite the woeful British weather we still had a great time. The camp was perfect, walking distance to nice pubs and restaurants, lovely little bakery and local groceries shop. My boys 8 & 10 played in the shallows of the river in the nearby village of Fordinbridge. Toilets and showers were pleasant and clean. Communication and directions were easy and the owner was extremely friendly and welcoming. Altogether we had a blooming loverly time. We shall definitely be coming again. Thank you 👍🏻

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: (Stayed for one quick night on our way south to the beach. Small car, small tent, 2+2kiddos). Nice quiet little camping site with Nigel being at hand to help with anything, nothing seems a problem. Facilities as described (bring your £1s for the shower;)), small playground in one corner our younglings disappeared into so we could pitch up in peace and overall perfect for what we needed. We're not seasoned campers so really friendly tent neighbours were a great plus (thanks for the mallet;)). Quiet site, kids playing ball and such but no partiea or loud night music. Easy to book on pitchup, easy to find, no problem to arrive super late at pretty much sunset, good price. Definitely can recommend.

Local attractions

What first for adventurous sorts? Wakeboarding at the New Forest Water Park (10 minutes’ drive)? A simple bike ride or hike between the big trunks of the New Forest? In Bournemouth (35 minutes), the sea will be your next playground: explore by kayak, paddleboard, jet ski or power boat. If the kids are your accomplices on this holiday, Bournemouth has a host of family-friendly attractions from theme parks and amusement arcades to gardens, castles and theatres too. Families who are Peppa Pig fans can track down the Peppa and George characters in Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour), where simple rides are on-hand to entertain young family members. The Tank Museum (55 minutes) will bring some history into playtime for kids too (and adults are sure to enjoy the history lesson, of course); it has many different forms of armoured tanks throughout their evolution.
