  • Off-grid family campsite five minutes’ drive from Frinton-on-Sea
  • Walton-on-the-Naze and Clacton-on-Sea both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Grass pitches with kids’ entertainment, fire shows and pop-up bar
Looking for a family adventure under canvas and near a beach? You’re covered on both counts at Great Holland Campsite in Essex; this pop-up site has grass pitches for tents, and it's a five-minute drive from the beach at Frinton-on-Sea. You should also watch out for some unusual and exclusive entertainment at night – your hosts are part of an acrobatic fire-show team and regularly practise their skills (safely of course) on the camping field. Talking of which, the camping field is completely off grid (so no electricity, folks) with basic loo facilities and no running water – so add torches and bottled water to your packing list. Footpaths from the pitches lead to Frinton-on-Sea’s sandy strand, colourful beach huts and seafront promenade. You’ll find an assortment of restaurants and takeaways in Kirby Cross (15 minutes’ walk), and a couple of pubs in Kirby-le-Soken (five minutes’ drive).

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Good size pitches. Lots of space. Activities for the children. Warm, friendly environment and you can purchase fire wood and hire a fire pit or bring your own pit. 2nd time visiting and last time the owners put on a fire display but this time they were already booked at another venue

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The campsite is great and in a perfect location for walks and visits to the beach. The host and whole family make it the most warm and friendly experience! And they were happy to help with everything we needed. We even got a fire show which was a magical experience! Will 100% be back next summer for an even longer stay.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Friendly , spacious, fire pit , clean toilets. A really lovely little site. Speaking to the owner said they’d only opened recently. Off grid site but you never felt alone at the same time the campers are not crammed in to small spaces. Really lovely place and will definitely go back

Disliked Nothing to dislike
