Walk into the ancient woodland surrounding the camping meadow

  • Simple 10-acre pop-up meadow site just off the A272 near Maresfield
  • Ashdown Forest 15 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Lewes
  • Surrounded by ancient woods; café and supermarket across the road
Keep it ever so simple for your East Sussex break with a stay at Grovers Meadow. The word ‘meadow’ is the operative one here: you’ll be pitching up in 10 acres of gorgeous meadowland, setting up camp in a space that’s full of wildflowers and natural grasses and surrounded by ancient woodland. There’s plenty of space here, so you’ll be welcome to set up gazebos, awnings and camping tables as you wish, and bring along a barbecue or firepit for alfresco evenings. This is a very simple pop-up site so it’s just got a portable toilet on the facilities front. There’s no drinking water tap available, but if you take a walk through the lovely surrounding woodland you’ll get to the site’s own natural mineral water source. Settled down in a wild meadow with woods all around and often-fabulous sunsets on a summer’s evening, you may feel like you’re in a truly remote location here. Handily, that’s not the case at all – the site is in fact just off the A272 about half a mile from Maresfield. That means it’s nice and easy to get here, and to get out again for days out or journeys to shops and places to eat. And you don’t even have to go very far for those – Maresfield has a pub and a village store, and there’s also a supermarket and chain coffee shop just across the road from the site. There are plenty more country pubs dotted around the area, and Lewes is around a 20-minute drive away for a good choice of indie shops and cafés.
