  • Glamping on a 100-acre working farm in the High Weald
  • A five-minute drive to Herstmonceux; 20 minutes to the south coast
  • Private bathroom and kitchen; home-cooked meal deliveries available
Counting Sheep Shepherds Huts is a glamping site in the southern stretches of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about five minutes’ drive from Herstmonceux. If you’re after peaceful stays, this could be the place for you: the units here are set up on a 100-acre working farm that’s also something of a wildlife haven. Guests are welcome to stroll through the farm’s 20 acres of woodland, follow footpaths that run across the land or spend some time fishing on the large pond. You’re unlikely to spot many other people as you amble, but you may well encounter some of the farm’s other residents: Dexter cattle, sheep, geese, chicken and guineafowl all live here, and there’s a pair of peacocks wandering around the place too. Bird boxes have been placed around the site to encourage feathered visitors, and there are frequent sightings of badgers, deer and rabbits. Back at your accommodation, much is provided: each one has its own bathroom area and kitchen (with hob, fridge and utensils) plus a woodburning stove for warmth. An outdoor table and chairs is also provided for alfresco drinks and meals, and you can make life easy on the prep front by ordering breakfast, dinner or afternoon tea packs from the site (or indeed even easier by requesting a freshly cooked meal to be delivered from the farmhouse kitchen…) If you fancy heading out for food, there’s a pub, chip shop and a couple of restaurants in Herstmonceux. Sorry, but because of the ponds this site cannot accept dogs or children.
