Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: Very friendly reception from the owners on arrival. We found a good flat pitch with great view's of the fells. There are lovely villages and towns, within reach, for supplies and such. We would certainly come back here again.

Disliked: The toilet facilities are really nice and also very clean. Some people may find it limiting, if the site is quite full, as there is only one. Also there is just a sink and no shower, however the price reflects this and is very reasonable considering how nice the site is.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Quite site plenty of room. Owners were lovely and very welcoming

Disliked: Just grass, booked gravel and grass. But there isn't any gravel pitches. As only one toilet having to wait to go. No running hot water in bathroom

From the manager: Hi Many thanks for the information, and feedback, much appreciated. We will have to look at the wording on the details with Pitch Up as I can see it must be misleading. We do have 2 bathrooms, so apologies for this. Thank you again, kind regards Julie and Steve

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: Lovely, quiet site with beautiful views over the countryside. Great walks a short drive away. We had a day walking in the Trough of Bowland, which was stunning. Steve was there when I arrived and took me up to the camping field, showed me where everything was and pointed out a quiet spot in the corner for me. The toilet in the sheep-wagon was clean and airy. Two taps outside for drinking water.

From the manager: Thank you Anne for the lovely review. Many thanks also for you guidance with dogs, much appreciated. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again soon. Regards Julie and Steve

Local attractions

The centre of the United Kingdom is said to be at Dunsop Bridge, a pretty village 20 minutes' drive to the north. On your way there, you'll pass Bowland Wild Boar Park (20 minutes), a fantastic family day out by the banks of the river Hodder. For open-air explores in the local area, you could head to Stonyhurst College (20 minutes), where JRR Tolkien once lived and worked, and set out on the Tolkien Trail through the gorgeous Ribble Valley. Alternatively, there are the dedicated cycling paths and café at Gisburn Forest (40 minutes) or shorter loops around Beacon Fell (10 minutes). Those interested in fishing, meanwhile, can get stuck in at Barnsfold Fishery (five minutes), a well-liked angling spot just up the road that specialises in trout. A day out in the historic city of Lancaster (40 minutes) should be next on the agenda if you're staying for more than just a few days – make sure to see the castle and its dungeon, which held the famous Pendle witches before their trial. A little further up the M6 brings you to the coast at Morecambe (45 minutes) or the South Lakes (it’s an hour to the southern tip of Windermere), which can often be glimpsed from the top of nearby Beacon Fell on clear days.
