Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The views, clean toilets, friendly staff

Disliked: A very open field, weather was quite windy, so no shelter from the wind anywhere, no hot water when having a wash in the morning, field was cut but grass was left, so cut grass was trailed everywere We pitched at the edge of the field, which backs onto road, was like a race track, even through night was loud with traffic

Local attractions

Where to take your walking boots first? Local strolls might take you out onto the Pendle Way (which you can access via a network of footpaths leading from the farm), to pick up the Pennine Way (five minutes’ drive) or to take in different rural views from the ‘Atom’ artwork in Wycoller Country Park (10 minutes). Not worn your legs out yet? Great - there’s plenty more to explore. Perhaps a climb of mystical Pendle Hill, a woodland walk in the Forest of Bowland or an outing to the Yorkshire Dales National Park? All are about half an hour away by car. Should you reach a point at which you need a sit down, a ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway (25 minutes’ drive) is a good option, as it means you’ll still be able to survey the scenery at a more leisurely pace. A stroll around Skipton (20 minutes) might also be on the cards, taking in the priory and castle as you go.
