  • Dog-friendly pop-up site on the riverside in the Ribble Valley
  • A 10-minute drive from Whalley Abbey; 20 minutes to Clitheroe Castle
  • Access to walking trails; pub nearby; barbecues permitted
Put your feet up at Hacking Hall Farm Camping, a dog-friendly site on a working farm in Ribble Valley, alongside the confluence of the river Calder and the river Ribble. Here, you’ll be in a countryside chunk of land with views of Longridge Fell, surrounded by woodlands for walking (including family-friendly trails for all ages), with Whalley Abbey 10 minutes’ drive away and Clitheroe Castle 20 minutes away. The pitches are part of a field in front of Hacking Hall, with access to toilets and water. Pets are permitted here (on leads), and under 18s are also allowed, as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. You’ll be able to access lots of public footpaths in the area, along with places to eat: a couple of restaurant are about five minutes' drive/half an hour's walk away. The site is on the outskirts of Whalley in Lancashire, so the town centre is under 10 minutes’ drive away, where there’s a nice chain of shops, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. If you’re still hungry or don’t want to get up just yet, local places also deliver, so you can take a pizza down to the river if you wish. Barbecues and campfires are also permitted, so this may be another way to wind down in the evening nicely. Please note that this is an active working farm, with some agricultural activity beginning as early as 6am. Fishing is only permitted if you are part of the local angling association. Other activities like swimming and paddleboarding are not allowed along this stretch of the river.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Easy to book and pay to stay, got to park close to the river and set up. Felt very safe as a solo female traveller, close to family so will be booking again. Very friendly site owners. Clean toilets and owners come round on a quad to offer fire pits and wood.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The owner was very friendly, but respectful and came around every evening to see if any logs were needed. The field is quite big, so they had two sets of toilets/showers which were kept in a good condition and drinking water just outside the toilet by tap. The views were amazing.

Disliked: Because the field is so big, they only have one washing up station, near the entrance but not one on the next part of their field. Showers at the top side were cold showers and the bottoms ones were hot, so there is definitely a difference in amenities depending on which side of the field you camp, which felt a little unfair. Because of this it felt a little expensive for the basic amenities we had on our side of the field.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: This was a beautiful little find. The first night we practically had the field to ourselves. (My friend camped next to us) Such a peaceful night with lots of star gazing. The river is beautiful. The field is well kept. When we got there, we got there early, the young lad got busy rolling the field to make it flat for us. The sheep had escaped and was grazing as we pitched, which we loved but the owner was very apologetic when we saw her later. It wasn't an issue at all as we knew was a working farm, so all part of the experience. The 2nd night was a bit busier, but everyone was respectful and lovely. There are a few walks which we asked the owner and she kindly got a map for us and showed us the variety of walks nearby. It was a bit late in the day so we chose one of the smallest walks but even that had some lovely views. Hopefully, we will be back again and can try some longer walks. I loved that they came round in the evening to ask if we needed anything for the campfires. The wash area was a lovely addition, providing washing up liquid and bowls. We always bring our own but handy if you forget. The toilets are toilets and what you expect on a campsite. However some nice extra touches like handsoap and hand sanitiser. We wasn't there long enough to use the shower but I think would be enough to have a rinse if you needed if you was ther longer than a night or so. I love being near water when we camp so was lovely to be by the river. I highly recommend this place if you get the chance.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at all.

Liked: Beautiful surroundings & stunning views. The campsite owner was extremely helpful & accommodating - the pitch allocated wasn’t very level so they sorted us a new pitch no problem, we will definitely return.

Disliked: Spiders in the loo 🤣
