  • Peaceful rural Cumbria site between Yorkshire Dales and Lake District
  • A 15-minute drive to Kendal and 25 minutes to the coast
  • Simple pitches with basic facilities; 10 minutes' drive from the M6
Wild camping in style but with a few basic amenities thrown in to make life a bit more comfy? Gorgeous rural views but with easy access from the motorway? Many wishlist boxes are likely to be ticked by the mix on offer at Cumbria’s Warth Hill. A mere 10 minutes’ drive from junction 36 of the M6 is this peaceful spot with stunning views out over the green landscapes of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, with glimpses of Morecambe Bay beyond. That handy location between two national parks also means lots of scope to get out for walks, bike rides and other outdoors activities – and with coastal days a distinct possibility too. The wild camping vibe comes partly from those lovely views, and partly from the fact that it’s a laidback place where you can pick your own pitch (with plenty of space to choose from), bring dogs along and set up off-ground barbecues or firepits. Toilets and showers are available to guests, however, so you don’t have to live entirely wild here. Top barbecue idea? Take the two-mile walk to the local farm shop to load up on local produce for your grill (and stop in the café for refreshment while you’re there). For other supplies or to treat yourselves to meals out, it’s a 10-minute drive to Kirkby Lonsdale or 15 minutes to Kendal (or look out for several good pubs and restaurants dotted around the local countryside).

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Gorgeous view from the campsite! Exactly what I was looking for to just sit & relax with a morning coffee and late night barbecues! Best sunrise and sunset views right from your tent! Highly recommend.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The campsite was set in a beautiful location with stunning views. Facilities were average.

Disliked The site is unmanned and unfortunately we were pitched next to a loud group who played music into the early hours of the morning so we were unable to get much sleep. Unable to change the heat settings in the shower. Location is great but definitely not worth the price and won't be returning.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet surroundings

Disliked Drive up the hill is VERY steep with rocky path.
Long grass at top difficult to find flat ground.
Due to the height of hill, the wind whilst mild at road, was extreme at top of hill.
Struggled to pitch and tent didn't feel secure due to this.
