Guests unwinding at their pitch

  • Peaceful site alongside the river Rawthey, with views of Holme Fell
  • Half an hour’s drive from White Scar Cave and the Ingleton Waterfalls
  • Firepit hire and logs for sale on site; on a traditional working farm
Not one but two national parks will be available for you to explore when you stay at Holme Farm Camping. This peaceful site is part of a traditional working farm in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and it’s also only about 25 minutes’ drive from here to Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. As you’d expect from such a location, the surroundings are mighty pretty here – the Rawthey river runs alongside the farm, and there are lovely views up to Holme Fell as well. The farm’s meadows often provide a home for wildlife too, so look out for the likes of foxes, badgers, herons and woodpeckers while you’re here. Flat, spacious pitches are the standard here. Evenings are often spent around a fire, with firepits for hire directly on site and logs available to buy to save you hauling a heavy load with you. Toilets, a hot shower and a washing-up area are also available on site. It’s all about the rural peace here, but you won’t be completely cut off – within a 10-minute drive you can be sipping a coffee or a beer in Sedbergh, which also has a convenience shop and a greengrocers, as well as a pebble beach swimming spot on the river Rawthey. A little further afield, you’ll have your pick of classic Dales hotspots like White Scar Cave and the Ingleton Waterfalls (both half an hour’s drive away) and lovely Lakes locations like Windermere and Sizergh (both within a 35-minute drive).

What customers say

Spacious, peaceful campsite with beautiful rural views and a nice river. Large, well-kept pitches with fire pits. Generally clean facilities with hot water. Some note limited restrooms during peak times; manager advises an additional block is available. Access road can be tricky. Mostly quiet, with one report of noise addressed by the owner. Great value, recommended for location and space.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely big campsite in a quiet rural location, lots of space between pitches, helpful owners you are shown to your pitch and any extras are brought to you. It was busy when we stayed although it never felt that way as field was so spacious, no issues with noise. Showers, toilets and washing facilities were clean and accessible.
We took the walk into the town which was about an hour each way, very scenic and worthwhile.
We will definitely visit this campsite again.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great quiet little spot. Perfect for a weekend away. Park for little ones to play on as well as a lovely stream that has a path to walk along. Campsite was not too over crowded with facilities for toilets, showers as well as cleaning stations. This was both on the field, and additional near the farm house. Caters for more than 2 dogs which not all campsites offer!

Disliked Some of the other campers thought they were at a rave in Ibiza and did not adhere to the 10pm curfew for loud noise. Was upsetting to watch them argue with an older gentleman the following day, who was merely asking them to keep the noise down for the following night. This was not the campsites fault as the rules of the campsite are clearly explained when filling out the booking!

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Plenty of space and decent facilities

Disliked The narrow road getting down to the farm which is understandably unavoidable due to the area is slightly annoying when busy

Local attractions

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is packed with excellent walks, whether you’d like to take a wander to Cautley Spout waterfall (20 minutes’ drive), follow the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (half an hour) or take on some of the area’s more challenging routes – all three of the mountains that make up the Yorkshire Three Peaks are within a 45-minute drive, for example. The scenery is pretty special in this area – and that extends to what’s under the surface too. The show caves at White Scar Cave (half an hour) and Ingleborough Cave (40 minutes) are well worth visiting for a glimpse of the subterranean landscape. Back up on terra firma, you may like to try out the activities at Fairfield Mill (15 minutes), take a wander around Kendal (25 minutes) or head into the Lake District National Park to tour National Trust - Sizergh (25 minutes) and visit Bowness-on-Windermere (40 minutes) for a lake cruise and some time at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction.
