Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It’s just a small little field with some portaloos and some water taps to fill up water bottles but perfect place to just simply pitch up the tent and camp nothing fancy all you need is good company. Owner really easy going just on the other end of the phone to be able to check in. Had an amazing little weeked. The portaloos had plenty of toilet roll in. Only thing I’d maybe suggest is maybe having a little care box with feminine hygiene items in for the ladies that come camping in each toilet? Obviously not needed but could see ladies really appreciating a small touch like that 😄

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It was a quiet pitch in a large field with lovely views. Also had a portaloo stocked up well with loo roll. Easy to just turn up and pitch wherever you like which is a bonus.

Disliked: Grass needed cutting

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: It's basically a field, with 2 portaloos and that's it. However, quiet and peaceful, and had decent sleep. Pop up campsite that's an easy turn up, sleep and leave.

Disliked: No bins

Local attractions

The Lake District National Park is surely calling when you stay here – and there are plenty of ways to answer that call. Intrepid hikers may like to tackle peaks like Blencathra (20 minutes’ drive) and Skiddaw (35 minutes) while those in search of something more leisurely stop in at Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes). As for the lakes themselves, you can get to Ullswater in about 20 minutes for a cruise or some watersports, or head further afield to Bassenthwaite and Thirlmere. And of course there’s also the option of stopping in Keswick (20 minutes), on the banks of Derwentwater, for a waterside walk, a canoe trip or a show at Theatre by the Lake. Puzzling Place and the Derwent Pencil Museum are good picks if it’s a damp day. It doesn’t all have to be about the Lake District here – there’s also the option of crossing the M6 to the the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or heading north to Carlisle (half an hour) to visit the castle and Tullie House Museum or ride the scenic Settle-Carlisle Railway.
