The park in the evening

  • Coastal site next to Maryport Marina
  • Near an aquarium, two museums, a go-karting track and a golf course
  • Highly scenic views of the Solway Firth, plus spectacular sunsets
Ahoy there… If you’ve been seeking a site right in the middle of the historic harbour town of Maryport – right next to the marina itself, in fact – then you certainly can’t do much better than Harbour Side Caravan Site. Better still, this site is within a very short walk of several of the town’s topping attractions such as a Roman museum, a maritime museum, an aquarium and an indoor karting track; you’re also a mere two miles from the local coastal golf course, and within very easy reach of the Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath too, which runs right through the town. The site has a simple set of amenities that includes a wheelchair-accessible bathroom block with hot showers, a parent and baby room and a laundry room and a washing-up area, as well as electricity bollards and water stands around the accommodation area.

What customers say

Great harbor spot with stunning views and easy town/dog-friendly beach access. Clean, private modern restrooms are a highlight, as are the friendly staff. Well-kept, level pitches often have hookups. Cafe's a hit. Mostly peaceful, though occasional facility queues happen. Town's a bit tired for some, but guests love it and plan to return.

Liked Easy check in, lovely quiet site, clean facilities. Well priced for my stay, easy to find and to book.
Nice location, very peaceful. Recommend the chippy just over the water as well as the surprisingly excellent aquarium.

Disliked Site is quite dark, most of the light poles that guide you across to the facilities are nonfunctional. Street lighting in the area is also pretty poor so worth bringing a good torch!

Liked Excellent pitch at this harbourside spot. Clean washing and showering facilities too. It is set back from the main town and a lovely pleasant walk that isn’t too taxing either.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked Well located at the Harbourside and walking distance to the beach and town centre. The pods was clean, warm and close to the toilet, shower and laundry block, there is also a cafe on site with a well recommended breakfast. Reception staff ate cheerful and very helpfull. I would recommend this site to my friends and family

Disliked Not disliked as such, more of suggestions. The crockery provided is not for use in the microwave. A small foldable table would be a bonus. A toaster would be handy along with USB charging points.

Liked Very quiet
Lovely loos and showers
Spacious pitch
Easy pricing with everything included

Disliked Not a dislike but just be aware that the lights in the shower are on a timer/ movement sensor so don’t be alarmed if you get plunged into darkness, just wave your arms about and it comes back on!

Local attractions

Several excellent attractions lie around Maryport Marina and within very easy walking distance of the park. For a spot of local history, explore the exhibitions and collections at Senhouse Roman Museum and Maryport Maritime Museum. Or for something purely fun-based, take the kids for a day out to zoom around the tracks at West Coast Indoor Karting, or to marvel at the fish and other slimy sea creatures that inhabit the tanks at Lake District Coast Aquarium. If you’re into walking, then the highly scenic Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath also passes through Maryport, and you can head along it in either direction for spectacular views out across miles upon miles of Cumbrian coastline. Tramp the path six miles north (or take the wheels out for a spin along the B5300) and you’ll happen upon the Victorian village of Allonby; wander around its cobbled streets spying such historic sights as the Old Baths, North Lodge, Christ Church, and the workingmen's Reading Rooms and check out the cheerfully painted homesteads along the way. As well as lots of history and a couple of award-winning beaches, the village also has some rather fine views across the Solway Estuary towards the mountains in the south of Scotland; for avid anglers, a local company also operates fishing trips off the Solway coast.
