  • Back to basics site on the edge of Coniston village and Coniston Water
  • A five-minute walk to the shore and village; gondola rides nearby
  • Water provided; pubs, cafés and takeaways a short walk away
Set upon a real ready spot five minutes’ walk away from the shores of Coniston Water… Coniston Hawkshead is pretty primed for a break by the water, five minutes’ walk away from the centre of Coniston village too (quite the foodie area, with pubs, cafés, takeaways and shops). This peaceful little Cumbria site calls a farmer’s field home and it comes with the basic facilities you’d expect from a back to basics site. There are no showers here but fresh water and portable toilets are provided so that you’ll have the essentials (and no bins, so you’ll want to whisk any rubbish away when you leave). The views are part of what makes this site so sublime. You’ll have water and fells all around – a nice reminder that you’re within reach of all the Lake District’s natural wonders without the need for a car. From here, Tarn Hows and local fells are within walking distance of the site or you may pick up speed with a bicycle ride or hike around the lake. Perhaps wanders around Brantwood and Hill Top may be calling your name too? You don’t need to see the sights on foot or wheels, though. There are Steam Yacht Gondola rides across Coniston Water or treetop adventures at Go Ape adventure park, 20 minutes’ drive away, for an alternative way to explore. For a proper chilled-out way to wind down the day, you may want to bring along a barbecue. When you feel like having the chopping and sizzling sorted for you, there’s a refurbished pub just a couple minutes’ wander down the road.
