What customers say

Beautiful, tranquil marina campsite with spacious, private pitches. Friendly staff, great cafe, bar & pizza. Clean facilities. Minor issues: possible plane noise, limited showers/toilets causing queues. No cars on pitches; gear by quad.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Nothing

Disliked Being subjected to muck spreading on adjacent field for the whole day we were there, so close to tent the wind was blowing it onto the tent.
Planes going overhead constantly overnight depriving us of sleep.
Cafe/bar closed for both nights we were there
No staff on site. Therefore no communication.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Gorgeous setting, so calm and peaceful. Beautiful outlook across the canal and countryside. I did some lovely paddles along the canal, really peaceful. The outdoor shower was a highlight, I prefer it to the shower block!
The tearoom and bar were an added bonus. Felt very safe as a lone female visitor

Disliked The campervan locations were next to the car park, so the views not quite as nice as the other areas.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This is an ideal site for peace & tranquility for a perfect tent break.
The only issue is the expensive meals on offer but the small bar offers reasonable priced drinks.
We have been here 3 times and will certainly be coming again.

Bell tent

Liked Great site, quiet at night aside from airplanes passing over but you get used to it...if you think it would be an issue, bring ear plugs! Tent is great, bring extra torches or lamps if you like it brighter but they do provide them.

Local attractions

Start off with some good old-fashioned industrial heritage at the Lion Salt Works in the nearby village of Marston (10 minutes' drive), or visit the Anderton Boat Lift (15 minutes) to see how ingenious Victorian engineers negotiated a 50-foot drop between the river Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal. The handsome market town of Northwich (10 minutes) and its bustling high street should be next on your agenda – especially if your stay at Oakwood Marina coincides with its monthly artisanal market. For cities where there's always something on, you could head to Chester (40 minutes) or Manchester (40 minutes), both of which have top museums, kid-friendly attractions, shopping opportunities and historic quarters to explore. Need a breather after all that? Fresh air – and plenty of it – is available at Marbury Country Park (15 minutes), Tatton Park (20 minutes) or Dunham Massey (25 minutes), a National Trust-managed property with a deer park and garden that makes the place well worth visiting all year round.
