  • Family-friendly wild camping in the parish of Bradfield
  • Hilltop location with moorland views on the edge of the Peak District
  • Spacious grass pitches with stunning views
Set on the edge of the Peak District National Park, East Peak Campsite is a pop-up on the outskirts of the village of Dungworth in South Yorkshire. With spectacular views to moorland, the hilltop camping field is flat, peaceful and well away from the sound of traffic. It also catches any available sunshine right from sunrise through to sunset. This family-friendly, back-to-basics site has grass pitches (there are no electric hook-ups), a few event-style toilets and a drinking water tap on the camping field. From the pitches, you can soon be exploring the area on a network of footpaths leading through fields and woodland. While barbecues and firepits are allowed on the pitches, please make sure they’re raised off the ground to reduce the risk of fire spreading. There's also a strict no-music policy on site to keep things peaceful. East Peak Campsite is a handy base for road cyclists, with routes leading into the national park. Likewise, rock climbers looking for grit can easily access the East Peak crags – Agden Rocher crag is visible from the camping field, and popular climbing spots such as Rivelin, Bamford and Stanage are all within 20 minutes’ drive. If you’re backpacking or would rather abandon the car while you’re on site, it's handy that the local bus stop is 10 minutes’ walk away, with an hourly service. If you’ve got any questions about where to go and what to see, ask a member of staff – they’ll be happy to help in any way they can.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: East Peak site was basically two grass fields with two portaloos on top of a hill but the views were great and it was a very convenient location for exploring the north east area of the Peak District. Patrick the owner was friendly and helpful. He was there a lot of the time looking after the site and the toilets were kept immaculately clean. He gave us useful information on local places to eat and visit. There was plenty of space between tents/campervans and the site was fairly level. It was peaceful and had a calm atmosphere. The cost per person was low, making the site very good value for money if you like 'no frills' camping.

Disliked: A bit exposed to the elements as it was fairly wet and windy during our stay but no real problems.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Amazing views. Plenty of space. Accessible by public transport. Plenty to do in the local area.

Disliked: Lack of place to wash your hands properly. Toilets supplied sanitiser and there was a water tap but it would be great to have a wash basin and soap to properly wash your hands.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Big field with lots of space, not too many people. Toilets were pretty clean and kept stocked with toilet roll. On the week days when we were there it was incredibly peaceful, windy as it's on top of a hill but perfect for the weather. I can't believe its so close to Sheffield! The guy at the campsite was really helpful and friendly.

Disliked: On the first night (a Saturday) there was a large group of men in the next field. They were friendly enough but did play loud music until quite late at night. It wasn't a massive issue but it was a bit disappointing as the ad said no music.
