  • Family-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod and family or friends, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept site offers spacious, level spots with nice field views. Clean, modern facilities and friendly owners are highlights. Despite ongoing development, it's a great base for exploring, with a pub nearby. Metered electricity adds cost. Wi-Fi and dog routes may be issues.

Liked Stayed here on two adjacent pitches for the weekend with my brother and sister in law. Lovely place. Easy to find. Someone mentioned the rough track to access the site. I didn't find it too bad. I was in a 7.9 van - no probs with access. Level pitches. Picnic tables dotted around which were a nice touch. The main toilet/shower room is modern, huge and well looked after with 2 further kind of modern portable structures containing a loo, sink and shower. Again ok. One pitch is brick paved. Lovely job. Hope the plans are to do the rest like that as looks really smart. We had a view of the paddocks with 2 horses and some goats. Great for kids with large grassed areas to play on. You can hear a main road very faintly but otherwise very quiet.
Owner was very pleasant. You ring on arrival to be allocated a pitch and he arrived promptly. Helpful with local info too. Takeaway delivered from village Chinese on Sat eve and Pub (The Green Tree) 20 minute walk along a road with path all the way. Carvery on Sunday - best turkey I have ever had!
The only thing that I personally think needs attention are the bins. Just not enough of them so were overflowing when I wanted to dispose of stuff before I left. Would use again. Thank you

Disliked Not enough bins

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Spacious pitches, quiet location, private and well-maintained. We had a quiet night, slept well and just a few minutes from the motorway. Level hard standing pitches and toilet block and showers spotless.

Disliked Unfortunately, we didn't have the correct tap connector - if the water tap had a hose connector it would have made life easier.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Level pitch - easy to find. Electric was fine for our 1 night stay . Toilet and showers were clean. Good pub 15-20 walk away

Disliked Taps didn’t have standard fittings so had to fill up on a different pitch which was fine as only 1 other pitch taken. Could do with a path to the toilets. Would be useful to email pitch numbers rather than call - easier all round I would think.

Liked Spacious pitch - lovely peaceful spot. Really clean restrooms/shower area. Was 1 mile walk to nearby pub which was easily do-able. Lovely views over the fields and lovely waking up to the early morning sun and sheep in the nearby field. All was great.

Liked "I recently stayed at Mooreacres in Doncaster, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I highly recommend this site for anyone looking for a peaceful, well-managed getaway in South Yorkshire.
The first thing that stood out was how well-maintained the grounds are. The pitches are spacious and level, offering a real sense of privacy and quiet. I stayed in one of the hardstanding spots, and the hook-ups were reliable and easy to access.
The facilities are spotless—honestly some of the cleanest I’ve seen at a rural site. It’s clear the owners take great pride in the property. Speaking of the owners, Oliver was incredibly welcoming and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
The location is also a major plus. It’s a perfect base for visiting the Yorkshire Wildlife Park or taking a long walk through the nearby Hatfield Moors. After a day of exploring, it was great to be just a short distance from local pubs like the Green Tree Inn.. I’ll definitely be returning!"

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
