Woodside primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The peace and quiet of this campsite is exactly what we needed. The location is stunning and a great base point to explore the surrounding areas. We loved the spaciousness of the pitch and appreciated the gap between each camping pitch as we hate to feel cramped while camping. Perfect ground for tent pegs, we had no issues at all. The facilities are perfect for a campsite- the toilets and shower were always clean, the freezer in the welcome hut came in very handy and the dog walking field is a lovely touch.

Disliked: Not a dislike but a bit of advice- the lights in the toilets are solar powered so make sure to take a torch with in case.

Woodside primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: I like that you have your own pitch and tall grass between your neighbour. The pitch is nice and big bonus to have a picnic table. The facilities is nice and clean. Family friendly quiet after 10pm. There are a pad lock at the main gate so nice a secure campsite. Have freezer for ice packs and phone charger point. Highly recommend

Disliked: Sink too small in the toilet.

Liked: The peace and quiet. Everyone was very respectful. The the facilities were clean excellent and clean and tidy. A lovely campsite.

Disliked: We didn’t see the owners at all. But I suppose that was the vibe of the place.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, sorry we did not get a chance to chat when you were staying, I had quite a few changeovers on the glamping units so I was kept very busy cleaning them and the showers and toilets as well as the admin and family and animals to look after and Philip has been flat mending things and working hard on the farm. We do try to pop over when we have a spare minute but at this time of year it can be difficult so we do apologise we were not able to meet you, best wishes, Sarah

Hawthorn camping pod

Liked: Very peaceful site. We stayed in a pod which was a good distance from the other glamping pitches and had a nice grassy surround which the dog loved. Pod was comfy with a small wood burner for colder evenings. The TV was an unexpected perk in an off grid pod.

Disliked: Small issue, but the solar lighting in the pod was rather dim. Bring a head torch if you want to read. 10pm is awful early to put out your fire pit, especially when it hasn’t been dark for long. 11pm would be more reasonable, with a caveat of quiet after 10.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, unfortunately the 10pm time limit on Fire pits is a stipulation of our insurance. We are looking at ways to increase the brightness of the 12v lighting in the pods :-)

Local attractions

The hiking trails around these parts really do have a lot going for them… ramblers might come back raving about the historic walking route along Hadrian’s Wall (25 minutes’ drive) or the grouse, goats and roe deer that they spotted around Northumberland National Park (35 minutes) Zoos have a greater variety of creatures, whether it’s the farm animals (and tractor rides and playgrounds…) at the Whitehouse Farm Centre (five minutes), the kangaroos and monkeys at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens (10 minutes) or the snow leopards and lemurs at Northumberland Country Zoo (20 minutes). Golfers should be able to get into the swing of things at the golf course five minutes’ drive away or the N1 Golf Centre (five minutes) miniature golf and driving range. If rummaging through rockpools is more your cup of tea, next up will be Newbiggin-by-the-Sea beach (25 minutes). Sandy Blyth Beach (25 minutes) is also on hand. As for historic places that bring to life old Northumberland, check out the market town of Morpeth (five minutes’ drive), Newcastle upon Tyne (25 minutes) and Alnwick Castle (half an hour). The latter’s re-enactments and archery activities will really get you feeling like you’ve gone back some centuries.
