  • Dogs welcome; splendid views of the coast; nearby restaurant
Motorcycle racing and sandy beaches might sound like a fairly unusual combo, but you do get prime access to both at Oliver’s Mount. First of all, for the sporting enthusiasts among you: this green pop-up site is part of the road-racing circuit of the same name, a historic track that sees roaring action six weekends a year. It’s a top spot to catch some motorcycle races and car rallies. Having said that, away from those motorbike-focused weekends, the site is remarkably peaceful, and an excellent base from where to explore Scarborough and its seaside attractions (10 minutes’ drive) and the coast of North Yorkshire. On site are level grassy fields for your tent or motorhome, with heaps of space for children to run around and play, plus woodland walks that ought to make your dog’s tail wag with delight. Not forgetting the pretty epic views of the coastline from this elevated plateau… From a practical point of view, there are two toilet blocks, showers and a washing-up area. Water is available too, as are chemical disposal facilities. Barbecues are allowed, and the nearest shop is a five-minute drive away. But why cook when you can be cooked for? There’s a café/restaurant within walking distance (about 10 minutes), and you get spectacular views over Scarborough South Bay with your breakfasts, burgers or locally sourced fish.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked No hassle self check-in

Disliked Fresh cut wet grass... it gets everywhere.
Only one shower cubicle.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry about the grass, it had just been cut, and then it rained!
Valid comment about the showers when the site is busy, we are looking to get more showers in for next season.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Ok but 30 mins walk into town. Big hill back up. Taxi £10.00 minimum. No hook up just a field basically. Toilets just ok nothing special

Disliked Not really a touring site. More of a pop up camping site

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So, it's exactly as advertised - as a pop up site
It's the closest campsite to town.
We only have Non-Electric pitches, clearly stated in the pitch name
We can't be blamed for taxi prices !

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Good campsite, loads of space and really friendly people to greet you. We were shown the facilities and then left to organise our own space and set up camp, good spot for a quiet little break. A walk down the hill to a little park with a big lake if you get bored but a huge uphill climb to get back!!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Really pleased you enjoyed your stay, the peace, quiet and space.

Local attractions

Scarborough’s two sandy beaches (South Bay and North Bay) are separated by a headland topped by the ruins of a medieval castle. At the back of North Bay, the Scarborough Open Air Theatre puts on live music by big international names, and there are more events at the elegant Scarborough Spa, built in the late 19th century. Residents at Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park (10 minutes’ drive) include meerkats, lemurs and alpacas, plus friendly farmyard animals that enjoy being fed (please only use the site-approved feed bags, though). From there, drive a further five minutes to Filey Brigg Cliffs, where you might spot puffins flying overhead. Keen to have a go at paddleboarding or kayaking, but nervous to do it in open water? Head to North Yorkshire Water Park (25 minutes), where you can try these (and other) watersports, or just bounce, slide and splash around the inflatable adventure course.
