Sunset over robin hood's bay

  • Dog-friendly farm site one mile from Robin Hood's Bay
  • Walking distance from the beach, village and the Cleveland Way
  • Horses welcome; shops and restaurants nearby
Robin Hood’s Bay was once the stomping ground of smugglers, but you’ll be the new sharks about this place… you see, Farsyde Farm is only one mile from the beach and village, so you’ll be well-based for hunting down rockpools, ancient fossils and cobbled streets chock-full with independent shops, pubs and fish and chip shops. Plus, you’ll get to freestyle right onto the Cinder Track or Cleveland Way, as both trails are 10 minutes' walk away. More on that new den of yours… the peaceful Farsyde Farm is surrounded by the coast and countryside and the large field spies over the grand Ravenscar cliffs, the countryside and the sea. When you’re not preoccupied with the views and splendid sunrises or sunsets, dark starry nights take over by night – just the thing after a day spent walking, mountain biking or following family trails locally. When it comes to getting your go-to snacks and meals, there’s no need to put the car into action either. The village and its well-stocked shops are 15 minutes’ walk away along the Cleveland Way. Of course, the beach might very well reel you in with its rockpools and fossils (just be sure to take care, especially with the kids). There are good facilities on site, including two flushing toilets, showers, a tap and a dishwashing area. Those of you who have horses in your flock will be happy to find they’re welcome too, and guided rides are available. An added bonus is that this site is home to a flock of adorable Valais Blacknose sheep and a small herd of alpaca.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely campsite in a great location. Lots of lovely animals on site, the Ryland sheep especially. There was a really nice walk through woodland down into the bay with beautiful views from the clifftop. Toilets and shower hut very rustic, clean. Honesty box policy operated. Boxes of eggs available to buy.

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Great location. 15 mins walk to Robin hoods bay. Eggs for sale near shower. Shower very warm and powerful which was a pleasant surprise given it’s in an outside cubical. Always clean & a quiet site. Lovely to see all the animals too, owner very friendly. Got the bus for £2 back from Whitby which dropped us off in the closest village and then another 15 min walk from there with the same route taken by car to get there. Walked the cinder track from Robin hoods bay to Whitby & found an honesty box stall selling home made cakes & bottle water etc so well worth bringing some change.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Amazing views and location. Host was lovely and helped us out with some cutlery we forgot. It's a field with toilets and a shower but at the price it's great value for the views alone. Will definitely visit again. (Didn't know what the WiFi situation was hence the stats - but you're camping, why do you need WiFi)

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Was made to feel welcome, and the owner explained different things to do, very large field with ample of space and was able to choose where we pitched our tent, there was 2 very clean toilets and a great shower, also a large sink, it is a working farm with quite a few animals so we expected to hear them during the night but didn’t hear anything, would definitely stay there again

Disliked: The only thing I can think of was the ground was a bit uneven but didn’t effect our stay

Local attractions

So, where to get walking to? You’ll be going off-road on the 22-mile Cinder Track (10 minutes' walk). Depending on which way you go, Scarborough or Whitby could be your end destination… with the latter, you’ll be on track for the gothic-style Whitby Abbey (15 minutes' drive), and spooky it is, as the 13th-century abbey was the inspiration for the Dracula novel. The Cleveland Way (10 minutes' walk) is another cycling or walking route pretty much on your doorstep. It passes through Scarborough and Whitby too, as well the North York Moors and Saltburn-by-the-Sea – there are 109 miles, so you may want to be choosy about which section you go for. When you’re ready to rest your feet, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (25 minutes' drive) is right and ready for a steam railway trip, perhaps on one of the historic Pullman carriages. As for those of you who aren’t ready for the action-packed activities to end just yet, there are the zipwires and treetop obstacles at Go Ape Dalby (45 minutes) or wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking and an aqua park at North Yorkshire Water Park (45 minutes).
