  • Dog-friendly working farm site in Yorkshire three miles from Malton
  • A 10-minute drive from the North York Moors; 40 minutes from the coast
  • On-site tearoom and farm shop and a private riverbank for fishing
From mountain biking down wooded slopes to playing around on the east Yorkshire coast… if you’re fond of the sound of a rural retreat between the Yorkshire Wolds and the North York Moors (10 minutes’ drive) and 40 minutes' drive from the sea, set your sights on The Whole Hogg Caravan Park. Three miles and a 10-minute drive from the so-called ‘food capital of Yorkshire’ Malton too, this dog-friendly site will introduce you to life on a working farm. Home to the Hoggard Family for nearly 30 years, the scenic farm has worked on arable land surrounding Howebridge and in the process, they have also sprouted a splendid farm shop and tearoom. So, gather up some fresh produce for a barbecue in the evening. And in the morning or afternoon (between 9am and 5pm Monday through Saturday or 9am until 4pm on Sundays), grab a bite to eat from the tearoom. If you prefer to take the homemade goods back to your pitch, they can arrange a takeaway too. Fishing your thing? There’s a private riverbank alongside the site for fishing. When you fancy a wander, there are also several walks around the farm (with or without a dog). And when you fancy chugging somewhere further afield, board the steam train at The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 10 minutes’ drive away. Looking for a pub for a refreshing drink or meal out? Conveniently, there are plenty of friendly holes within 10 minutes’ drive of the site (in Malton, Pickering or the countryside).

Local attractions

For a look at life on the frontline, visit the Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum (five minutes’ drive). Another stop nearby is the Flamingo Land Resort (10 minutes). A theme park and a zoo in one, admire the feathery flamingos and then brave the rollercoasters. Known for its thatched cottage and brook, Thornton Dale (10 minutes) in the North York Moors National Park is a splendid spot for a leisurely stroll. Or on the park’s southern slopes, however, daredevils can mountain bike in Dalby Forest (half an hour for off-road trails for beginners and experienced riders). Chuck the east coast’s beach towns (and their seaside stretches) into the throw and visit Whitby (40 minutes), Filey (40 minutes), Bridlington (50 minutes) or Scarborough (40 minutes). For historic sites, first take off to York (35 minutes) for its minsters and medieval streets. Then, call in at Castle Howard (20 minutes) to see a stately home and complete your trip back in time at the Ryedale Folk Museum (25 minutes), an open-air collection of historic rural buildings. Feeling green-fingered? Visit the Scamston Walled Garden (15 minutes) or the lavender and wildflower farm at Wolds Way Lavender (15 minutes).
