  • Quiet touring park 10 minutes' walk from Boroughbridge
  • Easy to get to York, Ripon and Harrogate by public transport
  • Cosy lounge area with pool table, TV, wifi and library
Old, you say? Well, yes – Old Hall Park is really rather old indeed. This well-kept touring park just outside Boroughbridge is on a former Saxon farmstead that’s been around so long it even gets a mention in the Domesday Book, no less. The place has had a bit of updating since then, of course, and it’s now got a collection of hardstanding pitches with all mod cons, including electrical hookups and an Elsan point. They’re surrounded by gorgeous, well-kept gardens, giving plenty of space to relax in the open air should the weather decree it possible. And should the weather not decree it possible? No need to remain cooped up on your pitch – the site owners have considered that eventuality (having had just a little experience of the fickle Yorkshire weather) and set up an indoor lounge area with wifi access, pool and snooker tables, a TV and books, games and toys to borrow. Old Hall Park's location is pretty fab, too – the A1(M) is a couple of miles away for easy getting in and out, and it’ll only take you 10 minutes or so to wander into Boroughbridge for shops, restaurants and pubs.

Local attractions

There are many excellent places nearby for a wander – it’ll take you 20 minutes or so to drive to UNESCO-listed Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden, or about 10 minutes to get to Newby Hall and Gardens, a fab family-friendly estate with a miniature railway, river boat trips and a doll’s house exhibition. Countryside ramblers will find plenty of marked trails running from Boroughbridge, including the Roman Ramble, which takes you off to the Roman site in neighbouring Aldborough, and the riverside Roecliffe Ramble. If you’d rather plonk down by the river, day fishing licences can be picked up locally. There’s also much to enjoy when poking around in the nearby towns of Harrogate and Ripon, or by heading up to York, just over half an hour’s drive away. Even more fably, should you fancy abandoning your wheels on site for a bit each of them is a cinch to get to by public transport.
