  • Pub site on the edge of the pretty Yorkshire village of Reedness
  • Award-winning carvery Sundays and pizza night once a week
  • Ouse riverside walks and the Blacktoft Sands reserve very close by
Half measures? Not here. East Yorkshire's Half Moon Inn is fully sorted for location, facilities and award-winning Sunday roasts – how handy that you'll be pitching up right by a pub. Riverside walks along the handsome banks of the Ouse as well as twitching at the Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve within five minutes' drive are among the many options for when you've worked your way through the pub menu and are seeking something slightly more active (if only to ensure your clothes still fit when your holiday comes to an end). And as local town Goole (10 minutes' drive) is an East Riding port town, it's an easy ride by car – or bike – to the Yorkshire coast for strolling upon the sands. But back to that menu. The pub is open daily for food, from its general menu from Mondays to Saturdays or a full carvery on Sundays (do book a table for this latter, it's rightly popular). A stonebaked pizza night runs on Mondays too and there are free meals for kids at certain times of the week, as well as evening entertainment for grownups awaits including quizzes and live music – fully expect to be spending quite some time in this friendly pub. The site has toilets, internet access and ice pack freezing. Barbecues (off ground only) are allowed, but you'll probably yearn to have meals in the pub every night: no point having a Yorkshire pub holiday in half measures…

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Tidy site with gravel pitches and grass cut short. Didn't use on site facilities so couldn't comment. Great pub food excellent choices and good value.

Disliked: Noise from next caravan until 12 at night, playing music, shouting and swearing. Two members of their family slept in a car which I'm sure isn't allowed.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautiful location Large grass area for multiple activity use Fabulous quality beer and very tasty food at the pub. Great pub staff, very friendly. Was a 5 star but the few minor dislikes made it a 4 star

Disliked: Despite asking I could not find the showers. There needs to be a sign at least. Mens toilets need proper ventilation, very 'pongy' at all times. Only one sit down toilet in the mens toilets for the entire site. The elsan point means lifting a drain cover at which point you can see peoples faeces floating by from the toilet block - yak. Come on this definitely needs addressing to something more acceptable

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: did you get the 'welcome' text that clearly says- Showers are located at the cabins in the carpark Room 6? there's a sign on the door & a sign under the light outside(for night time)

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Flat field & barman & locals in pub were really friendly

Disliked: Toilets didn't flush well & found it difficult to lock the doors No bucket at kitchen sink to scrape plates & pots Leak in kitchen sink when water was draining so it splashed over your legs Showers temp unsteady going from cold to boiling & vice versa & you needed pound coins to operate them £1 for 2 mins. WiFi available in the pub not on the site Field is open & used as a dog walk & cut through for locals

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Lovely and quiet , right on the river , nice walk along there , amenities very good and clean Carvery in pub was awesome but needs to be pre booked And also Sunday night quiz

Disliked: Showers were lovely and warm and clean but the payment system is garbage , having to get out to add more money after your time has expired ( 2 mins for a quid if memory serves ) I have no issue paying for showers but it needs some other system in place that works better

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Martin, the shower can be pre-loaded with £1 coins, you dont have to get out to put another £1 in ! There is a note with instructions on at the meter.

Local attractions

Set off from the site for strolls along the Ouse, along the riverside path to the villages of Whitgift and Ousefleet, a mile and two miles respectively, or further afield to Adlingfleet (four miles) or Fockerby and Garthorpe (each six miles away, and surely worth an extra dessert at the pub later). You can also opt to hike the three miles to Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve, for more active hours wandering around the biggest tidal reedbed in England to spot the likes of marsh harriers and bitterns. Pick up the birdwatching challenge sheet from the centre's reception to see how many you can tick off; prizes are awarded for the best sightings. Guaranteed sightings are among the critters of Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 40 minutes' drive away just outside Doncaster: species to see here include lions, tigers, lemurs, baboons and the only polar bears living in an English zoo. Hull is 45 minutes away for shopping and sightseeing.
