  • Well-maintained glamping park close to the East Yorkshire coast
  • Near the A165; 10 minutes' drive to Bridlington and 25 to Scarborough
  • Smart, well-insulated pods with kitchen kit and campfire area
Channel your inner Viking and run rampant along the north-east coast at this family-run site in East Yorkshire. Set in pleasing green surrounds, the fab accommodation at Viking Garth Hideaways is close to both established seaside spots like Bridlington or Scarborough and the wilder cliffs and coves of the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast. Pods are spread over tree-lined grounds, with plenty of picnic tables about where you can admire the view or tuck into an alfresco meal (or both…). Campfires are also welcome in the designated areas – wood and charcoal can be picked up in Bridlington (10 minutes' drive), along with other holiday essentials. Finished off in natural wood, Viking Garth Hideaways' all-weather accommodation is easy on the eye both inside and out. This eco-conscious spot has also kitted out all of its pods with double glazing and insulation (heating is on hand for those cooler nights). The smart interiors are mightily functional too, coming with a microwave, fridge, crockery, cutlery, a TV and a DVD player. If and when you manage to pull yourself away from these snug surrounds, start your explores with jaunts to seaside villages like Bempton (five minutes' drive), which has a village pub, a railway station and other handy amenities. Want a day off from driving? A local bus stops a few minutes' walk away from the site entrance.

Camping pod

Liked: Great little spot close to beaches. Loved that it was a small site with only 4 pods. The other guests were all friendly and it was quiet. Inside the pods was pretty much everything you would need like washing up liquid, sponge, plates and cutlery, etc.. was a great little space in a great location and would definitely stay again. At night the stars looked beautiful and I even spotted a fox.

Disliked: The only downside I can think of is that it’s quite close to a main road and you can hear the hum of cars. That said it was quite enclosed so I didn’t have any safety concerns regards to children.

Camping pod

Liked: As as I arrived the cleaner was just finishing, she came over to chat and answered a few questions i had. She was so approachable and lovely! From the get go this place was fantastic. They have a box of toys for children in the playing area, huge hit! Lots of space for children to run around and play. The pod was really clean and in good condition. There was a booklet left on the table that has all of the local shops, takeaways you can order directly to your pods, bus stops and anything you’d need to know throughout your stay. During the stay I had a question about the bins, this was answered and help given promptly. It’s in such an ideal location, when you are at the pod you feel tucked away and a million miles away from anywhere, in reality you are so close to lots of places within a short distance, we did something different every day! The pods are far enough apart that if you’d like a more secluded getaway, it’s also the perfect place as from each fire pit, you can’t see the next pod so it is very private. We got on well with the family in the next pod that also had children, so also lots of space to gather together and watch the children play. No WiFi, but had no problem with signal whilst being there. Everything about our stay was amazing, my daughter has asked to go back again already!! We will definitely be returning.

Disliked: Honestly, we didn’t have anything that we didn’t like throughout our stay. Everything was fantastic.

Local attractions

Wrap up warm against the wind and head to RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre (10 minutes' drive), a high-up spot with spectacular coastal panoramas and where, from March to October, you can watch around half a million birds tending to their young on the cliff face. For swim-friendly spots, meanwhile, make for one of the several beaches around Bridlington (10 minutes) or check out Scarborough's sandy seafront (25 minutes). Also within easy reach, the former fishing village of Filey (10 minutes) has a great seaside golf club, an animal park and plenty of fish and chip shops to take advantage of. After dawdling here for a while, the sweet selection of attractions on offer in Sewerby (15 minutes) may very well catch your eye – Sewerby Hall and Gardens and Sewerby Zoo are the two must-sees, but an entertaining couple of hours can also be had at Bondville Model Village or Danes Dyke beach. Heading inland, the North York Moors National Park (30 minutes) has hundreds of acres of heather-covered heathland to explore and ace forest trails to tread. Bit more adrenaline needed? Then get yourself to Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes), a popular local theme park.
