Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Owners are very friendly and helpful and the facilities were very clean ie toilets and showers. Only a 15min walk to the beach. The wife collected blackberry's and bought eggs from the farm.

Disliked: Very long dirt track if you meet traffic someone will have to reverse no room to pass. Some bumps in the grass be selective where you pitch

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet small place that you are pleasantly surprised by with a friendly welcome upon arrival. Basic but good facilities are all you need when camping in a small tent as we were. An added bonus of a sheltered barn to use (as long as groups aren't using it) if the weather is challenging. Quite a unique location. Access immediately to nice walks linking up to coastal paths and beaches. The site is accessed via a track rather than a road. Accessible by most vehicles with care. 2 caravans, 2 pods and a cabin are also available to book.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Curlew 2 bedroom cabin

Liked: The location, isolated with amazing views. Small campsite for nature lovers. We stayed in the login cabin, furnished to a very high standard. Fridge, freezer, microwave, oven hob and washing machine, pots, pans, cutlery plates everything you could think of. The log burner for cooler evening was a welcome pleasure. The area has super winding walks down a cliff side to a beach (pretty much deserted) The area is not far from local towns, we particularly enjoyed Seaham. Would recommend the camp site and look forward to staying again next year.

Disliked: Please note these are not actually our dislikes but should be considered. The road to the campsite is very bump track. The walk to the beach would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues or impossible for anyone in a wheel chair. There is no Wi-Fi on site.

Powered grass campervan campsite

Liked: Where the site is situated, beautiful views. Small site, very peaceful. Very friendly and accommodating site owners. Fire pits and wood and a lovely area for sitting. Perfect for people who don't mind mixed facilities.

Disliked: Toilet cubicles are male/female separate but within the same building that is accessed by the same door and not private outside the cubicle (personal preference but great for people who don't mind) . Dish washing area had only cold water. No chemical disposal for motor homes.

Skylark 2 bedroom mobile home (no pets)

Liked: Stargazing over a firepit... The Skylark caravan is home from home. Very well equipped (own bed linens and towels) good kitchen with everything we needed and bathroom with toilet and lovely hot shower Beautiful view over fields and woodland with skyline of the sea The site has amazing outdoor barn space when not in use as workshop with inspiring artistic atmosphere 20min walk down to the pebble beach - steep and slippery if wet - wear good boots Yu Chu chinese will deliver to site entrance... tasty and good value

Disliked: Long walk back up to village and shops... be prepared and take what you need with you... there is a fridge and cupboard space in the van No TV or wifi but good to get away from it all :)

Local attractions

Heritage is all around here: local village Easington is home to an ancient church famed as a sailor's landmark, and is a former mining town with colliery remnants including a pit cage and pit wheel monuments at the nature reserve on the old pit site. More old mining bits and bobs can be picked up on the local beaches, including sea coal and sea glass. Walk through the woods and along the coastal path to the seaside town of Seaham, its beaches and harbour; the area around the farm is a wildlife haven too, so the quiet of foot might see deer and badger setts along the way. Like most the beaches along this stretch of Durham coast, those at Seaham are popular for sea fishing, particularly from the Featherbed rocks to Ryhope Dene. Hartlepool (25 minutes) has the HMS Trincomalee and the Maritime Experience on its quayside; at Durham, meander along the river for viewsome looks at the spectacular cathedral and castle.
