  • Private waterfront glamping for two in Suffolk with a rowing boat
  • A 10-minute drive to the Dedham Vale; 15 minutes from Ipswich
  • Luxury bell tent with flushing toilet & hot shower, firepit & kitchen
Relax into a romantic rural retreat looking out over what was once an ancient manor house moat. Now a secluded hideaway for two, The Reed Bed sits on the water’s edge in a peaceful half-acre of wild meadow. Set among rolling fields on the edge of Constable Country, you'll have this pop-up luxury site to yourself. While away the day exploring and picking plums from the orchard, pootle on the water in your own private rowing boat, then settle down beside the firepit when the sun goes down. The five-metre luxury bell tent is decked out with a king-sized bed, extra-cosy duvet and a log-burning stove. In the private en-suite bathroom, hidden among towering bamboo, you'll find a walk-in copper rain shower and flushing toilet. Wake to the sound of the resident mallards and moorhens splashing on the water. There’s an outdoor seating area with a firepit and barbecue where you can watch the drama unfold. Afterwards follow your nose along the footpaths that crisscross the surrounding countryside (there are maps available on site so you won’t get too lost). Prep your own food using the outdoor kitchen facilities, which include a fridge, electric hobs and barbeque (plus all important phone-charging points). And when you feeling like dining out, there’s a pub 10 minutes’ walk away, not forgetting all the eateries in the surrounding villages - you'll find a list of recommendations in the bell tent. If you feel like some pampering, there’s also a manor house hotel for afternoon teas and spa treatments half an hour's walk away.

Local attractions

Dig into the story of the royal burial site at Sutton Hoo (30 minutes’ drive) or head to the historic wool town of Hadleigh (10 minutes), with its market, river walk, medieval Guildhall and independent shops. Why not admire the drunken half-timbered houses in Lavenham (25 minutes) or the Tudor mansions in the ancient wool town of Long Melford (35 minutes), too? The Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a walkers paradise. And when you tire of walking, pootle in the river at Flatford Mill (20 minutes), the inspiration for Constable's The Hay Wain. Other options include paddling in the estuary and supping a bay view pint at Pin Mill (15 mins), walking the walls of the 12th-century fortress at Framlingham Castle (40 minutes), sipping fine English wine at Dedham Vale Vineyard (30 minutes), and enjoying the sandy beaches at Felixstowe (30 minutes).

Bell tent

Liked: Such a peaceful retreat. Lovely location. Perfect spot for reaching places of interest in Suffolk. Hosts, Rachael and Guy, were on hand but not intrusive. We are already thinking of how we can visit again next year. Strongly recommended.

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely secluded location with everything you need in the tent, shower room and kitchen area to ensure you have a peaceful and relaxing time. Comfortable bed, bedding and towels provided. Good instructions and treats left by the hosts. Outdoor lighting was very pretty and effective. Would go again! Also the Turkish Restaurant (Cappadocia) nearby was recommended by the hosts and was really lovely food.

Disliked: Wooden walkway could be slippery when wet. You may need something to stand on to reach the kitchen sink as we found it was slightly too high up for us.
