Powered grass campsite (sloping, adults only)

Liked: Contemplated giving this site 1 star, but only so it didn’t get busy. A beautiful, well equipped site in a fantastic location. Great for walking, running and mountain biking. No shortage of hot water in the modern shower block and an onsite cafe with great coffee. A*, will definitely be staying again soon!

Disliked: The electric pitches are sloping, but nothing that a good set of ramps can’t cure.

Powered grass campsite (sloping, adults only)

Liked: Beautifully presented and clean everywhere. Very impressed with the pitch size. Water easily accessible, and hookups clearly positioned. Toilet and shower block, always clean, and well stocked with decent loo roll and hand soap. Utility hut has 4 sink units, with plenty of hot water, a washing machine, microwave and a fridge/freezer. We had arranged to arrive after 6pm, we were left clear instructions for which pitch was ours, and a simple diagram showing how to get to it. The site is very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of birdsong to listen to, and lovely clear view of the stars, cloud permitting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we will definitely be returning.

Local attractions

One of the most sought-after sightseeing options in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area is the Sutton Hoo archaeological site near Woodbridge (15 minutes’ drive) with its two 6th- and early 7th-century cemeteries. One was home to a ship burial where a multitude of Anglo-Saxon artefacts were uncovered, many of which were sent over to the British Museum in London due to their top cultural significance. Learn about the discovery, then potter over to the riverside setting of Snape Maltings (15 minutes) for more history in a village that's home to industrial buildings dating back to the Victorian era as well as modern galleries and boutiques. Woodbridge, a market town 20 minutes away, is also an excellent choice if you fancy shopping for souvenirs. For town times by the sea, Aldeburgh (25 minutes) is a pretty place set by a shingle beach on the North Sea; set off on a wander here towards the Martello Tower, built as a defence against Napoleon, then head over to the hamlet of Thorpeness (30 minutes from the site and a couple of miles from Aldeburgh) for a bit of boating on the mere.
