  • Wild camping on a laidback Suffolk farm
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Southwold or RSPB Minsmere
  • Local produce sold on site; a mile from a pub and butcher's shop
Beetlebank Farm Wild Camping is a laidback and rural pitching spot surrounded by spectacular Suffolk farmland. Set just back from the A144 and a mile from the village of Bramfield – home to a butcher's and a pub – this site is has excellent views across the countryside and is about a quarter of an hour's drive from England's east coast. The farm is a small, regenerative working farm with rare-breed sheep, goats, chickens and other livestock. There is also a small market garden and flower farm where you can buy freshly-laid eggs and farm-harvested veggies. This is a place where you can leave mod cons at home and reconnect with nature in the fresh air. The farm is surrounded by mature oak trees, bird-filled hedgerows and other rural sounds like the far-off bleating of sheep, making it a great backdrop for simple and serene breaks. Beetlebank Farm Wild Camping supplies all parties coming here with a five-litre bottle of drinking water, as there is no drinking tap available on site (additional bottles can be bought). There are well-maintained portable toilets here, but electricity, showers and other things will need to be sought out in the local area.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: We enjoyed our stay at Beetlebank Farm. It is a lovely site, with a magnificent oak tree in the middle of it (with swing on it too!) I found the site owner to be very proactive in getting in touch prior to the stay, with directions and reassurance that we could call him if we needed to, which provided a lot of peace of mind. The toilets were clean and with plenty of toilet roll and cleaning gel. It was a nice touch to be given bottles of water for our stay too. It's a massive bonus that you can have fires there too - we took a metal fire pit with us but I don't think we needed to have done that as it seems others have had them safely on the ground. The only slight downside is the proximity to the road but after about 11pm we heard next to nothing until the morning.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Simple and stripped back. Good price.

Disliked: A little noisier than expected with road noise. Had some noisy neighbours too but that's no fault of the site.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful site, eggs from the chickens were delightful, appreciated the lighter touch supervision from the owner and the facilities were bare bones but clean and functional. Extremely good value for the price, would definitely come back. 700 year old oak tree and pigs a definite highlight.

Disliked: Could maybe have done with a slightly larger water ration given how hot the weather was - I’d definitely advise bringing a couple of extra bottles in the heat, especially if you plan on doing washing up/washing yourself.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful setting, we had the campsite to ourselves for the first night and then there was just one tent for the second night. So quiet and peaceful with a huge amount of space. Geoff was helpful - he provided free water and we purchased a dozen eggs to take home with us. The site is situated close to the Two Magpies Bakery which we purchased breakfast from on both mornings. Had a wonderful time crabbing and playing on the beach in Southwold. Thank you for having us.

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Very beautiful, honest green field camping. Huge container of water on arrival left for us under the oak tree (no tap - which we were fully aware of). Perfectly decent portaloos. Really lovely stay.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Lovely host who came to meet us on the first day. Large field of grass and flowers to pitch up in, shady oak for the children to play under, quiet wild camping field for a two night taster for my 1 and 3 year old.
