Liked: Our tent to the point of not being able to use while setting up. The friendly and amazing staff put us up in a static caravan free of charge, and saved us a very upset boy and a wasted weekend. Instead, we had a lovely time exploring the site, owls, golf and shops!

Bell tent

Liked: Location within the campsite was excellent, loads of space around the tent, how flat and level the ground was, the views and scenery from the tent/decking area were amazing. Beds were comfy, although needed pumping up each day, not a difficult thing considering cables are left there to do so and tents have electric. Member of staff at check-in was really friendly, polite and welcoming, made us feel valued and welcomed. Toilet and shower facilities are what looks like converted shipping containers, toilets were always spotless and clean and plenty enough toilets or urinals. Wifi in and around the site is much better than anywhere we've experienced before. Legends Bar is good, nice selection of drinks, food menu is good although limited to burgers, pizza or jacket potato which we found was sufficient. Staff were also really friendly and helpful in sorting out a gluten free option for a member of our group, although best to check in the day before eating to make them aware of any dietary needs as they didn't have anything much other than a jacket potato or ham/egg/chips when we asked, following day they were able to provide a gluten free burger.

Disliked: Showers were clean, but felt like they were lacking a little, 3 hooks on inside of the door to hang stuff on but no flat surface away from the shower to put stuff on such as keys or phone etc. No drainage in the changing area of the shower cubicle which means water just sits on the floor and can't drain away. Shower height is also a little low, for someone of near 6ft tall it proved a little tricky to wet my hair. Small issues really but not a major problem.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Kids aged 10 & 13 lots to do - footgolf, crazy golf, owl sanctuary and a car boot to wander around. Nice family bar for a couple of drinks and generally lots to do. The pitch was flat and big, nice scenery with the golf course just there.

Liked: I liked the way the bathroom were situated withing reasonable walking distance from surrounding pitches, they were lovely and clean. The employees across the whole site were a pleasure to meet and were very helpful answering any queries we had. The grounds were wonderfully maintained. And the veiw from morning to night was absolutely stunning. There is no need to leave the site as the shopping village was full of anything you could want or need and the shop keepers were friendly. And in the personalised t-shirt/mug shop Chester the lovely four legged friend gleefully greeted us as we walked in the door. But we could tell he was definetly working hard and not hardly working. With a plentiful selection of activities for all the kids AND adults to enjoy there is weeks of fun to be had. Not only that, but a bonus of a range of event all throughout the year. I would definetly come again and recommend strongly to all to have a weekend or an even longer stay and stonham barns

Disliked: Non applicable

Local attractions

With all the attractions on site, it might be a while till you look outwards in search of entertainment. However, when you do, the Suffolk coastline is splendidly within reach, as the site is on the A1120 tourist road. Thorpeness (50 minutes' drive), Aldeburgh (45 minutes) Southwold (50 minutes) deliver on walks, watersports and simple seaside amusements. This is also an excellent place to channel your inner historian and deep dive into the past. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) is a Norman castle with a walk across the 10-metre-high walls. Sutton Hoo (half an hour) is just as spectacular, with two medieval cemeteries where a ship with Anglo-Saxon pieces was found. Perhaps pretty walks and eating out in restored Victorian buildings next? Snape Maltings (40 minutes) on the river Alde is a splendid setting for strolls and cycles, whether around the riverside loop or joining the Suffolk Coast Cycle Route 41. Take in the scenery on a river boat or sip on something caffeinated in the many independent eating venues in the Victorian buildings.
