  • Camping field on a farm with coastal views near Southwold, Suffolk
  • A 15-minute drive to Walberswick and Africa Alive Zoological Reserve
  • Fresh farm produce on sale; games room; 20 minutes’ walk to the beach
A stay at the Suffolk seaside? And near Southwold? What’s not to love? Especially at Pigs in Blankets, an off-grid camping site with spacious and flat grass pitches scattered across a six-acre meadow on a working livestock farm. Cleverly, the field is neatly divided into segments suitable for families, couples only (tucked away in a quiet corner) and one area for groups wishing to camp together. The recently refurbished “straw shed” is the focal point of the campsite. This renovated dutch barn now offers up all sorts of amenities from a washing-up area, washing machines and tumble dryers to keep everyone and everything sparkly, to a games room for the kids if the weather turns against you. While on site, you’ll have constant views of the farm animals, the neighbouring wildfowl marshland and the lovely Suffolk coastline. It’s only a 20-minute walk into the lively seaside town of Southwold for pubs and supermarkets (and the cool shops on its high streets), and you can buy home-reared, high-welfare produce from the farm’s self-service vending machine.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Fabulous field, easy to peg into the ground. Thoughtfulness in things to hire or things to borrow. Wonderfully helpful on both phone & in person.

Disliked: Being picky here as there was nothing to dislike. Would have preferred more hooks & shelves in the showers.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Space, clean facilities, friendly reception staff, ample parking, proximity to beach, level ground, great atmosphere, quiet come 10pm- but still able to chatter and have music on quietly. The vending machine with local produce is a great idea, yummy sausages! Wonderful weekend away, we should’ve booked for longer.

Disliked: Toilets could’ve been cleaned more thoroughly.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Amenities were great, showers and toilets high quality and phone charging available for a small fee. There were picnic benches near the barn which were perfect for a BBQ. Location was excellent, a short walk to Southwold town with great pubs and the sea. The beach further north was a beautiful untouched nearly empty sandy beach. The camping meadow was big enough that we didn't feel too close to other campers even at peak on the summer weekend. Jess and Matt were both really friendly and knowledgable about the local area.

Disliked: Quite close proximity to the pig farm which made the campsite smell like you'd expect a pig farm to. Was only a mild hinderance and the positives absolutely outweighed this.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Perfect location close to the beach and town. Facilities were clean and there were no marked pitches so you could find your own space and didn't feel crowded. Lots of space for the kids to set up games etc without disturbing anyone else. Staff were flexible and very friendly.
