  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site 25 minutes’ walk from Thompson Water
  • Easy access to the Peddars Way, Cycle Route 13 and the Pingo Trail
  • Playground and pub within 10 minutes' walk
There’s a plentiful supply of Norfolk strolls or pedals around Acorn Meadow, a well-maintained dog-friendly countryside site. There are signposts scattered around the edge of the site pointing you in some splendid directions… perhaps to the Peddars Way past pingo ponds and Roman roads or Cycle Route 13? The Pingo Trail is another top route for seeing historic pingo ponds (and see them you should, as these rare ponds are mostly only found in Norfolk). Thompson Water, famed for the same periglacial landforms and popular with dragonflies and the occasional otter, is 25 minutes’ walk away. If you’re looking to get an idea of the wider picture, the site is 50 minutes’ drive away from The Broads and Norwich and an hour from Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast. There’s a playground a few minutes’ walk away and a sports hall 10 minutes’ walk away. Plus, at the end of the day, tasty food is served up at the local pub 10 minutes’ walk away. Families and couples should both very much like this grassy field site, which has simple facilities covering water, a washing-up area, toilets and a shower, plus a toilet emptying point for tourers. Everything is well maintained, so it should be no surprise that there’s always help at hand too.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked The camp site was brilliant.
Fred (the guy that looked after the camp site) was amazing!
The pingo trail was so overgrown that we couldn’t continue anymore. We took a farmers track to the main road, then rode back to the campsite from there.
The pingo trail is NOT for kids, as it’s so overgrown. My boy did not want to carry on the trail.
We had to regroup and ride the roads that were the national speed limit on our bikes. My youngest is 9 years old. I was so scared.
However, every car driver that had to overtake, they took a wide berth and passed us on the other side of the road.i gave them the thumbs up.
Scary but empowering!

Fred is a top guy! He closed up our tent and put away our chairs when it started raining. All of our stuff would be wet/soaked if it wasn’t for Fred. Such a nice guy.

I will definitely stay at acorn media again. My boys had the best time.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Everything, Acorn Meadow is one of the nicest sites I’ve ever stayed at, it’s beautifully quiet at night, well located for local attractions and transport links. Fred the host is an absolute star, very polite and knowledgeable and offers great information about the surrounding area. He went above and beyond by putting waterproof covers over our chairs towels and blankets when it rained while we were off site, what a legend. The whole site is extremely well maintained. There is a children’s playground over the road from the site entrance and a local community hall that hosts lots of events so you could find a surprise attraction to visit. Thanks Fred, we will definitely be back next year.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked Fred was there for our arrival as arranged and showed us around the site. The site is looking good with obvious improvements made recently. All the basis facilities were there and the site was well maintained and clean. A 5 minute walk to the local pub. We would recommend this site.

Local attractions

There are lots of hikes to get stuck into from Acorn Meadow. Don’t overlook the trails of Thetford Forest Park (10 minutes’ drive), which has around 45,000 acres of dense forestry to explore. The forest’s namesake, Thetford (20 minutes), is just as splendid in a less green way. Some of its top spots include the Dad’s Army Museum, the Ancient House Museum and Thetford Priory. King's Lynn (50 minutes) is a household name in Norfolk. Check out the merchants’ houses and the Custom House from its heyday. If you time your trip right, you could snap up some good local products at the Sunday and Tuesday markets. Norwich (50 minutes) is also packed with things to do should you want a rest from the walks. Tick off all the many historic sites, like Norwich Cathedral, Saxon Marketplace and the St. Ethelbert’s and Erpingham gates. After a little rest stop or an easy afternoon activity? Melsop Farm Park (15 minutes) has some lovely little play areas and a café for a family-friendly and budget-friendly afternoon out.
