Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Really peaceful campsite and super laid back. Self check-in with an honesty box for fire pits and wood provided! Minimal toilets (3 altogether) and during my stay one was out of order. I’d assume during peak period this might cause an issue. Really close to great north Norfolk locations!

Disliked: One toilet was out of order.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Facilities were really nice and clean, lovely location and the field was in really nice condition! Drinking water taps were also available which we really liked.

Disliked: The campsite is advertised as quiet with no music allowed, however there was a large group near us playing music loudly and shouting until about midnight. The campsite is unstaffed and there was only two of us so we didn’t feel comfortable going over and asking them to turn it down. Maybe this would have been better if there was staff, or if the campsite wasn’t advertised as quiet. I also phoned midday to ask about check in and there was no response. It didn’t spoil the trip and obviously doesn’t reflect on the campsite itself, just something to consider.

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for staying and I am genuinely sorry to hear this. During the high season, the site is staffed with resident wardens. As you will appreciate we are now off season & after the evening check, I can be on site within a few minutes if I am made aware of a problem. Sadly I was not aware until reading this! However, I can only apologise and I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit otherwise and enjoyed the facilities the campsite has to offer. Caroline

Local attractions

If you’re after pine trees, sandy beaches and a cutesy quay to try out crabbing, Wells-next-the-Sea (a 15-minute drive) is a good stop to add to your list. Further along the coast, there’s an almost endless expanse of beach at the Holkham National Nature Reserve (15 minutes) or Cromer (half an hour), a family-friendly seaside town with a nice stretch of sand good for surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing in the sea. For those who want to name all the different types of birds, Stiffkey (10 minutes) is the place to go. And for more wildlife discovery, Pensthorpe Natural Park (15 minutes) is nicely geared towards families with outdoor activities and eco playgrounds. Looking for something a little different? Holkham Hall (20 minutes) has a walled garden and a rather stately home. There’s also Wiveton Hall (10 minutes) for more historical garden tours. Afterwards, perhaps check out the old abbey grounds and shrine in the historic village of Walsingham (10 minutes), which has popular pilgrimage routes.
