  • Two parks in one: family-oriented and more quiet sections
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, gym, crazy golf, bar and restaurant
If you can’t decide whether to opt for an idle break or something a bit more lively, then have the best of both at Breydon Water Holiday Park, near Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads. It’s essentially two parks in one: the first is Yare Village, for those looking for an active, family-oriented vibe, with its toasty outdoor pool (open from May to September, weather permitting), crazy golf, and a buzzing schedule of sports, kids’ activities and evening entertainment. Just 10 minutes’ walk away is the more sedate Bure Village, where there’s an indoor pool and a fully-equipped gym. The site also has wifi in the Waterside bar and restaurant.

Liked: We arrived in early September for 3 nights. Warm welcome from site staff. The pitch had plenty of room but was worn and muddy, we were able to manoeuvre into a drier area. We were close to facilities and the site was quiet. We were able to walk to a nearby bus stop which took us into Great Yarmouth. We liked the price per night. We didn’t use any of the other facilities eg pool, bar, entertainment.

Disliked: The women’s shower and toilet facilities! Although there were lots of toilets and showers available, some were not fit to use. Through no fault of the site, some of the toilets were not fit to use (as a previous review stated) the toilets were left soiled and in a disgusting state! Why do people not clean up after themselves? Again as said in previous reviews, the showers had a push button system for the water, you had to hold it in with one hand to get a continuous stream while trying to wash yourself. The shower head was sooo close to the tiling, you couldn’t get under the jet easily. This needs to be rectified. The was up area was fine although, again, people didn’t leave it as they should, food left in sinks etc.

Liked: Lovely area for walking, and for easy access to the coast by motor or bus, Bus stop not far from site. Outside pool and entertainment on site, also place to eat, can recommend the mega breakfasts. Chinese takeaway and Fish and chips delivered to site.

Disliked: As visited near end of season pitch grass was rather worn, would recommend taking an outside mat of some sort.

Liked: Friendly campsite with plenty to do and see, the facilities were roomy and kept to a reasonable standard, the food in the restaurant was also very good and the pool was very nice and kept to a good clean standard. The pitch area grass was short and clean.

Disliked: The pitch we was on was mostly mud and unfortunately we had rain in the night so we woke up to a bit of a swamp and the pitches where all quite close together so it was quite noisy in the night as the tent next to us decided to keep a tv on until about 2am in the morning and it was LOUD! The 10am kick out in my view is a bit early especially if you haven’t slept all night!

From the manager: Hi Patricia, thanks for taking the time to leave your review. We're pleased overall you enjoyed your recent stay at Breydon Water and really made the most of our facilities on-park. I'm sorry the conditions of your pitch were muddy; we appreciate this this can have an impact on our guests experience and hope you were able to raise any concerns with our dedicated team so that they could look to assist you with this. We're also sorry to hear you were kept awake by your neighbours, we do have a quiet policy on park that guests should be respectful of others and start to lower any noise after 10pm, so it's disappointing to hear that this wasn't your experience on this occassion. We do hope despite the issues you've raised that you enjoyed your stay overall. ^AB

Liked: We stayed here with older and younger children, there was a park for the younger kinds, which was a good park and looked clean and well kept. My older and younger kids went to the pool (I didn’t) but all said it was fun and enjoyed it. The football pitch was also enjoyed by all.

Disliked: The pitches were so close together, to get to the loos you either had to walk all the way around about 10 tents, or run up the side of someone’s pitch, thankfully the people in front were ok about this as we were very close to the loos doing this and I could allow my kids to go alone. The toilets were filthy, poo stains on the seats and hardly any loos had a good flush, this meant every time it was a choice of finding the best loo that was only filled with loo roll and not poo! The showers were dirty and old, you were lucky to get 6 seconds of water between pressing the button. There was literally two hooks to put your stuff. The dishwashing facilities were no better, every sink full of food, grease and rubbish. I understand this is a lot to do with the people staying there however cleaning once a day when there was only 6 toilets (two out of order), 6 showers and 6 sinks to wash up between 30 to 40 tents/caravans etc is not enough. The poor lad doing the cleaning was on his own and only looked about 18, he was trying his best but he couldn’t possibly do it all. We were also parked so close to another tent who had their tv on until 1.30am, so loud even my noisy 16 year old was moaning. We didn’t complain as we knew others had, however nothing was done about it. The swimming pool had very restricted times and wasn’t open at all on the Friday. Deffo wouldn’t stay again

From the manager: Hi Jaylie, Thanks for taking the time to submit your review. It's lovely to hear the children in your party enjoyed our facilities, from playing football to splashing in the swimming pool. I will share your comments regarding the facilities with our Touring Manager and ask that they investigate this further, as well as implementing additional cleaning checks. We're also sorry to hear you were kept awake by other guests on park, we do have a quiet policy on park that guests should be respectful of others and start to lower any noise after 10pm, so it's disappointing to hear that this wasn't your experience on this occasion. ^AB

Local attractions

Great Yarmouth, a short drive away, has masses of attractions – too many to list here, but to give you an idea: the Sea Life aquarium, the exhilarating indoor circuit at Karting 2000, mini choo-choos and tiny townsfolk at Merrivale Model Village and Gardens, and the Elizabethan House Museum, where visitors can don Tudor fashions and find out what life was really like below stairs for Victorian scullery maids. There are more than 50 acres of adrenaline rides, plus parrot and sea lion shows and an Alpine chair lift at Pleasurewood Hills in Lowestoft. For those seeking more genteel pursuits, also near Lowestoft is Somerleyton Hall, a Tudor-Jacobean pile with pleasure gardens and a maze, home to the Crossley Carpets dynasty. Drive a little further and you can explore the wetlands and waterways of the Norfolk Broads, or head south to gorgeous Southwold and Aldeburgh in Suffolk.
