Active types will be pleased to note there’s loads going on locally – there’s angling on East Bilney Lakes or an 18-hole golf course at Dereham. Take the kids drag racing at Swaffham Raceway (all 15 minutes’ drive) or explore the countryside on four legs from Kimblewick Equestrian Centre (10 minutes). Water-bound adventures are on offer as well. Go sailing on the Norfolk Broads (40 minutes), head to the coast for bracing walks on the dunes along the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounding Wells-next-the-Sea (35 minutes), or try to spot the grey seal colony at National Trust - Blakeney National Nature Reserve (45 minutes). Away from the water, jump on the North Norfolk Railway steam train at Sheringham (50 minutes), or tour Jacobean apartments and explore 55 acres of gardens at National Trust - Blickling Hall (40 minutes), once home to Anne Boleyn. Art lovers can indulge themselves with ancient art and contemporary installations at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (half an hour).
