What a fitting name Get Away Hide Away has, for this off-grid site is tucked away in the Norfolk countryside, in the small hamlet of Elsing – part of the quiet and scenic Wensum Valley. The family who run the site are in the fourth, fifth and sixth generations on farm owners, and they like to share their local knowledge with guests who stay in the carefully and cleverly restored vintage horse lorry conversions. Surrounded by half an acre of wildlife meadows each, the units are in pole position for watching Norfolk wildlife. Butterflies, roe deer, hares, badgers, hedgehogs, buzzards and red kites are often seen, sometimes all in just one afternoon. Sometimes you may be preoccupied with other matters, like cooking or stoking the firepit. The characterful conversions have plenty of comfortable amenities, from an outdoor decking area to a firepit with an additional seating area and a removable griddle for ambient alfresco dining. While the conversions are off-grid and eco-friendly, they still have plenty of creature comforts including a woodburning stove, a sofa bed for extra seating and subtle lighting and USB sockets powered by solar. The kitchens are well-stocked for cooking or even baking; they have a four-hob grill and oven, a worktop and a kitchen sink. Next to each conversion is a private modern shower and a separate well-maintained composting loo. When you want to explore, there are lots of bike rides to be done around the local rural road network or along the banks of the river Wensum and historic disused railway lines. The owners will hand you a map of public footpaths as well as local pubs, of which three are within walking distance of the site. A farm shop with fresh produce, ice cream, milk and other local produce is a 40-minute walk away.

Liked: Everything!! The place had everything you could think you may need and more. The children loved it. So private and peaceful. And the host was very accommodating.
