  • Adults-only site surrounded by Worcestershire countryside
  • Droitwich Spa 20 minutes’ drive; Worcester 25 minutes
  • Well-behaved dogs welcome; just over a mile from the nearest pub
Located halfway between Worcester and Redditch (25 minutes’ drive to either), Church Meadow Campsite is a small, peaceful site surrounded by arable fields and splendid Worcestershire countryside. ‘Peaceful’ is very much the operative word here – not only because this rural spot is blissfully quiet, with just a soundtrack of wildlife and the occasional neigh from the horses that live nearby, but also because Church Meadow caters exclusively to adults. (Though well-behaved dogs are also welcome.) Well-maintained facilities on site include toilets and showers. The site is in the sleepy village of Dormston, which is home to a pretty, historic church. A carp fishing lake and a traditional pub serving food (including a full English breakfast) are both just over a mile away (a five-minute drive or a 25-minute walk), while other amenities, including spots to pick up groceries, are on hand in nearby Inkberrow (five minutes). This part of the country isn’t short on stunning scenery, whether you fancy jaunts to National Trust properties like Hanbury Hall (15 minutes), the historic town of Droitwich Spa (20 minutes) or heritage villages like Broadway (30 minutes), at the northern end of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Church Meadow is also easy to reach, being just a few miles from the M5.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Large field, very quiet, adults only. Loads of space to choose a pitch. Owner Ben was very friendly. Lots of footpaths and walks in the area. Great for an overnight stop.

Disliked: Only 1 shower and toilet which are a bit of a walk from the camping field.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Quiet, secure, open, last minute booking

Disliked: Toilets are quite a walk and there isn’t a path so during any evening/night/morning you will get wet toes over the grass. Toilets could do with an upgrade, the shower cubicle is quite uncomfortable as it sprays out onto the floor and the curtain obviously sticks to you… but as expected for the low price to be fair!

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Clean, quiet, dog friendly with public footpaths nearby for walks, electric hookups and easily accessible water taps (owner let us borrow his hose to fill our van), disposal points for black waste and dog waste

Disliked: Wasn't clear where to dispose of grey and black waste (had to ask a touring camper)

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Nice location, level hardstanding pitch. Nice relaxed atmosphere

Disliked: Facilities clean but basic, one toilet and one bathroom with a shower and toilet….need to take your own bog roll. Found the Elsan point and a dustbin for our waste after a bit of searching, not much info as to ‘where’s what’ etc but fine for a one night lay over. Can’t speak for customer service as only contact was to give me the gate code Didn’t affect us but some deep water ponds so careful with children

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Nice quiet pitch and site in general. Ablutions were OK, but could be improved.

Disliked: Had dogs with me and would have been nice to know where I could walk them other than on the site. There were several gated fields but no information as to whether I could use them.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Site was very quiet and relaxed. Basic facilities but that didn’t bother us it had everything we needed. Lovely walk to the nearest pub and back for food passing horses and alpacas. We brought our dog so the large camping field was good as you didn’t need to be near others (site wasn’t busy)

Disliked: Wish we’d known about the alpaca experience down the road but you needed to book 😞 Just remember to bring your own toilet paper as it’s not provided.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Back to basic campsite, simple wash block, but clean. No facility for washing up, possibly better suited for camper etc., but absolute bargain and grand for a short stay

Disliked: A wash up area for campers would be dead on

Local attractions

At the White Cottage Garden (five minutes’ drive) every season bring a riot of colour – from spring daffodils and summer peonies, to autumn dahlias and red maple trees. Morton Hall Gardens (10 minutes) include an orchard and a rockery; the grounds are also known for their expansive views over the Vale of Evesham. The pretty historic town of Droitwich Spa (20 minutes) has an open-air lido for summer swims, plus boat trips along the Birmingham Worcester Canal. The Heritage Trail walk starts from the Droitwich Heritage & Information Centre, which houses a museum on the town’s brine streams and salt production. Facing the River Severn, the medieval cathedral in Worcester has a spectacular Gothic vaulted ceiling. Not far from here, the Museum of Royal Worcester illustrates the history of the renowned local porcelain, while paintings (including a Canaletto) and displays about the Worcestershire Regiment fill the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.
