What customers say

Fantastic pods in a serene walled garden. Guests loved the high standards, space, and thoughtful touches like good showers and kitchens. The pizza oven and honesty shop were big hits. Ideal location for exploring. A few issues: one oven out of order, no mop, and bright lights in a lodge.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked The pod was easy to find with great instructions the honesty shop was great even knowing we never used it but would next time. The area was beautiful and we wish we had more time to spend there thus is something we will be doing in the future. We arrived quite late and we was surprised to see tea coffee and a fresh pint of milk. This is only a little thing but was really nice. The pod was clean nicely laid out and really cozy. We stayed as a family of 4 and were all very impressed with it. We can't wait to return

Camping pod (no pets)

Liked Our pod was very clean, the mattress on the double bed was really comfortable.
We liked the honesty shop and that we could borrow games for the kids.

Disliked No welcome letter/ information sheet.
We had to work out the WiFi for ourselves. There were no instructions for the oven, which we tried to google. The fan blew out warm air.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked Fantastic weekend based at The Walled Garden Pods. They have been really well designed and thought through. It's a beautiful peaceful location. The honesty shop is well stocked with anything you may need including wood for the pizza oven, frozen pizza dough and burgers, ice creams.
On the wall it shows all the photos of the family creating the site a few years back which was a lovely touch.

The pods are well insulated and warm - but can easily be well ventilated. We were there in August but I would be confident to go and enjoy them at colder times of year. We had my daughter and her friend age 11, they slept well, liked the quirkiness of sleeping in a pod, & enjoyed using the free outdoor games also kept in the honesty shop. Everything we needed was in the pod and the kitchenette was very well equipped. Good shower. Everything working well.

In terms of local activities, it's well placed, there are quite a lot of options assuming you're driving. We chose to visit Riverbank Alpacas very nearby and Trentham Gardens about 30 minutes away, as well as doing a local Treasure Trail via the app.

Disliked Not a dislike, just a comment.
It's peaceful because it's rural - so reliable WiFi is not guaranteed.... but also not really needed, it's a perfect place to switch off.
If you're trying to work from there perhaps save this site for another time.

Liked The location the facilities offered everything was thought of....the pods were an excellent standard and exceptionally well decorated.

Disliked My only negative was that the neighbouring pod couldn't read the signs saying no ball games yet still they continued to play football which made it difficult to get my young grandson to sleep.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked Beautiful setting within the walled garden, calm and peaceful and well maintained. We loved the pod itself - it was spacious, well equipped and nicely decorated. Beds perfect to sleep a family of 5 - all full size so older children will fit too. Good kitchen area, very good shower and bathroom. I liked that washing up liquid, hand soap, salt and pepper, and oil, were provided. We didn’t use the bbq as it would have needed a clean first. The honesty shop is a lovely idea. It was nice that they had things you could borrow, like garden games and a hairdryer. The whole place felt welcoming and like a lot of love had gone into creating it. Lots to do in the area too. Not too far from Uttoxeter either so easy to pick up supplies from a supermarket. We’d definitely come back.

Disliked The oven didn’t seem to work properly.

Local attractions

As with most of the area around the Staffordshire–Derbyshire border, it's not far to some splendid rural walking spots. The Churnet Valley Walking Route (five minutes' drive) is a flat path that follows the pretty Caldon Canal; hillier hikes are also to be had, as it's but 20 minutes from your pod to the southern edge of the Peak District National Park. The site is also a convenient base for those heading to Alton Towers (10 minutes), a fably thrilling theme park that needs no introduction. If you really want to push the boat out and indulge the kids, it's also close enough to Gulliver's Kingdom (35 minutes) to tick off both parks during your stay. If rides and slides don't push the right buttons, it's also a doddle to get out for more restful pursuits. For a golfing challenge, try the tricky 18 holes at JCB Golf and Country Club (five minutes); if you're yet to take your first steps in the sport, perhaps Lightwood Golf driving range (25 minutes) will be a better fit. Another genteel past-time is browsing for antiques in nearby Ashbourne (15 minutes), where there are around 10 different shops to rummage through.
