  • Spacious pitches woven through woodland, meadows and wildflowers
  • Space, wildlife and campfires in a beautiful countryside setting
  • Thoughtfully created pitches surrounded by nature
Farm on the Hill Some places are simply somewhere to pitch a tent. Farm on the Hill is somewhere to slow down. Farm on the Hill wasn’t created overnight. Over many years, what was once open farmland has gradually become a rich landscape of woodland, meadows, willow, orchards and wildflowers, with spacious camping pitches thoughtfully woven between them. No two pitches are quite the same. Some are nestled beneath the woodland canopy, others enjoy wide open skies and far-reaching countryside views, while others are tucked among young trees, long grasses or behind woven willow screens. Many feel wonderfully private, giving you your own little corner of the countryside for a while. Rather than fitting in as many pitches as possible, we’ve chosen to let the landscape shape the campsite. The result is a place where beautifully maintained pitches sit naturally within a landscape that’s been carefully nurtured for wildlife over many years. Every pitch has its own fire pit, making evenings around the campfire one of our guests’ favourite parts of their stay. Wildlife is simply part of everyday life here. Wake to birdsong, watch red kites and buzzards soaring overhead, spot butterflies drifting through the meadows, look out for rabbits along the paths and, as evening falls, listen for the owls calling from the woodland while a barn owl glides silently across the fields. Whether you’re looking for a woodland hideaway, big skies and beautiful views, or simply somewhere to slow down and reconnect with nature, Farm on the Hill offers the space to relax, unwind and leave feeling refreshed. We welcome tents and small to medium campervans, including long-wheelbase van conversions. Because many of our pitches are naturally woven through woodland and established planting, larger coachbuilt motorhomes are not suitable for the campsite. If you’re travelling in a larger vehicle, please get in touch before booking and we’ll be happy to advise.

Local attractions

Nearby attractions and activities Whether you’re looking for adventure or a slower pace, Farm on the Hill is perfectly placed for exploring some of Staffordshire and Derbyshire’s most beautiful countryside. Step straight from the campsite onto quiet country lanes and footpaths, or hire a bike here on the farm and follow the traffic-free Churnet Valley Greenway, the route of the old railway line through the valley. The trail leads to the beautiful Dimmingsdale, where you’ll find woodland walks, lakes, bouldering and the much-loved Ramblers Retreat café. The Peak District National Park is within easy reach, with favourite destinations including Dovedale, where you can cross the famous stepping stones, paddle or swim in the crystal-clear River Dove, and enjoy one of the country’s most iconic limestone valleys. Milldale, The Roaches and the wider Churnet Valley are also nearby for walking and exploring. If you’re tempted by the water, there are several beautiful places along the River Dove for paddling and wild swimming, and we’re always happy to point guests towards some of our favourite local spots. For families and anyone who enjoys a slower pace of travel, Alton Towers Resort, the Churnet Valley Railway, Trentham Gardens and Trentham Monkey Forest are all within easy reach. If you’d rather take life at a gentler pace, browse the local produce and café at Denstone Hall Farm Shop, explore the independent shops and cafés of Ashbourne and Leek, or take the five-minute drive to Wootton for locally made ice cream—including the charming honesty shop that’s open into the evening. Of course, many guests discover that their favourite part of the weekend is simply returning to the campsite, lighting the campfire and watching the countryside settle as evening falls.
