Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: I always enjoy going to Tackeroo, not possibly so much this time because it turned out to be the last weekend before the schools go back - it was pretty busy; but not a real issue as I was only having the one night (& not the whole weekend there) just to chill out. Tackeroo is lovely, even without all the facilities on offer by other sites. To be able to camp under the trees and have numerous choice of walks literally from the door of my motorhome suits me & definitely my dog too. All in all, booking through Pitchup always seems to work well and once at Tackeroo there is plenty of space so not to be on top of each other. The facilities that are there are totally adequate & the staff come round to check on you are perfectly friendly, nice to chat to. My WiFi worked some of the time but not all, understandable under the trees.

Disliked: Not a dislike of Tackeroo itself: t he two 'problems' were not really down to Dave & his team to control, but Staffordshire Highways were paying silly beggars with closing Penkridge Bank Road off stopping campers gettting through to the site entrance. They need to be far more sensitive to people running businesses - & also only employ contractors without obstreperous young men. Luckily there was one rather charming young man who did have the sense to let me through for which I congratulated him - he will go far, unlike the other one. One thing that Dave needs to be aware of is that there were several people having 'driving lessons' around the site & going far too fast considering there were lots of small children rushing around - not a good mix.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite (value)

Liked: Lovely campsite. Great for star gazing out of the tentbox skylights with my son. We picked here because if the access to the mountain bike trails. The rangers were around twice a day to check on everyone. A variety of people staying around the site. We sat watching a local cycling club have training session.

Disliked: Unfortunately at the time the site had some visitors that had over stayed their booking and wouldn't leave. But this did cause us any issues at all, rangers both was very open about!!

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Everything . I booked 2 nights for myself and 2 sons and was the best few nights we have had as yet . It was the boys first time camping and we decided on tackeroo as it was local it was the right decision both my sons didn't want to go home and asked before we packed down when we would be returning . The site is exceptional, the staff who run it are second to none any queries or questions asked were answered and they went above and beyond what I have experienced from other camp sites previously . Tackeroo is now going to be a regular fixture to get my boys into the great outdoors around other like minded families . Thank you

Local attractions

Once you’ve ridden around all the area’s excellent mountain biking trails several times, keep the adrenaline pumping while suspended high above the forest canopy at Go Ape Cannock (five minutes’ drive), an activity centre with almost 1,500 metres of tree-to-tree crossings. Less energetic dawdles in the area include dog-walking and orienteering trails. Other gentle ways to while away a day include wanders by the water at Fairoak Pools (five minutes) or fly fishing on the banks of Blithfield Reservoir (15 minutes). Amateur historians could amble around Castle Ring, an Iron Age site (15 minutes), while shoppers might prefer to dip in and out of the boutiques of Rugeley market town (10 minutes). If stately homes appeal, navigate your way to the National Trust’s Shugborough Estate (15 minutes), a huge Georgian building with a walled garden. Into flexing your creativity? Check out Ingestre Hall, a Grade II-listed 17th-century Jacobean mansion and the UK’s only dedicated Residential Arts Centre (20 minutes).
