  • Shropshire farm site on the Offa's Dyke Path and by the River Teme
  • A 10-minute drive to the Spaceguard Centre; 40 minutes to Elan Valley
  • Stroll along the riverbank to Knighton in 20 minutes
Just next to the Offa’s Dyke Path and on the banks of the River Teme, Panpwnton Farm is about as close to Wales as it’s possible to be without actually being in Wales (although as the border’s just a couple of hundred metres away you can easily flit between the two nations as you wish…) That location makes this a prime pick for anyone making their way along the entirety of the Offa’s Dyke Path – but there’s plenty of walking (and cycling too) to be done nearby for folk who aren’t up for such long-distance ventures. The farm is in the southern stretches of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes' drive from Llanfair Waterdine), where lots of scenic trails await, and you can also try out shorter stretches of Glyndwr’s Way, another major trail on the Welsh side of the border. There’s pretty rural scenery all around the farm, but you’ll not be stranded miles from civilisation – in fact it’s only about a mile to the small town of Knighton for pubs, eateries, shops and a railway station. You can drive down there in five minutes or so, but the favoured way to travel is to stroll along the riverbank for 20 minutes. Barbecues are permitted on site, so stock up on goodies for the grill while you’re in town. A washing-up area is on hand for cleaning up afterwards, and there are hot showers to help you do the same for yourself. There’s no wifi on site, but most guests get decent phone signal, and there are charging facilities to make sure you’ve got plenty of juice to plan your adventures.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Pretty location between tall hills next to Offa's dyke and with a small stream running through the site (I think it's a river but is very small at this location) You can get into the stream from a pebbly beach; unfortunately a big group had their chairs on the pebbles with their teenagers and children, so it was quite busy. You can walk to the town in 30 mins or so although the access lane is very narrow so would not advise with small kids.
Views of the hills with buzzards and other birds around. Family run farm, very friendly and welcoming. Flexible on arrival/departure time - definitely a casual, rustic vibe. Fire pits at night to use by your pitch (not sure if you rent them)
Small snack/hot drinks stand by the farm buildings.
There is a train line running alongside the field but I knew this when booking; train comes through every couple of hours and sometimes honks the horn.
Mainly pretty flat. Some trees for shade on the train line side, some close enough to hitch a hammock.

Disliked Very long walk to the toilets from the field. Toilets/showers are all in a barn and very few, so expect to queue. I think 3 or maybe 4 showers total for all (not gendered just cubicles) Also very limited washing up facilities, very long walk carrying your pots and again a long queue. With so many campers using the facilities they were not very clean unfortunately. Even if the family clean them daily they are going to get messy when they are shared with so many campers.
Couldn't find the water tap or black water disposal.
Bridge over the stream is very narrow and has metal corner barriers so would advise a spotter to check if you have a wider vehicle than a car.
This is a step up from wild camping but if you are likely to need the loo late at night expect a long walk in the dark over the bridge with your head torch.
No allocated pitches, just park where you like. This is great for big groups but meant vans and tents very close to each other, some parked horizontally using up a lot of space, particularly the side by the river.
Grass needs a trim; long and damp in the morning.

Primitive grass travel trailer, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The most amazing campsite, everything you would want & more. Stayed 4 nights with my cockapoo. Had the best time. The owners Roxy & Will work so hard to provide the best camping experience and are so friendly as are the lovely couple that run Offa's treats on site fabulous food / drinks & the best ice cream van. I didn't want to come home. Will definitely be back .

Primitive grass travel trailer, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic, Relaxed Campsite (Though I Left My Fortune in the Showers!)

I recently spent a couple of nights here camping with my little dog, Rosie. Unfortunately, the British weather did what it does best and rained the entire time, but Rosie and I braved the elements and still enjoyed a great trip into the lovely town of Knighton.

The campsite itself was absolutely fantastic. I met the owner, Foxy (Roxanne)—a name that absolutely suits her look! She was wonderful and runs a perfect site for families. They provide hot water for your pots and pans, and basically a mini-kitchen with a shared microwave, fridge, clean showers, toilets, and a washing machine.

I was thoroughly impressed by how wonderfully relaxed it is. You just pitch up wherever you want. It’s so much better than those other high-maintenance sites that mark out strict pitches with grass paint like a football pitch, which totally spoils the proper camping vibe.

The only real downside was my own forgetfulness. I accidentally left my toiletries pack in the bathroom, including my expensive eye creams and my electric toothbrush. So between the rain and the lost luggage, it turned out to be a very luxury-priced camping trip! Hahaha, but hey ho, that’s life. I'm just hoping the local wildlife appreciates a high-end skincare routine and a dazzling electric smile!

A brilliant site—highly recommended, just double-check your bags before you drive off!

Disliked The Rain.......

Local attractions

As you’ll probably be skipping about either side of Offa’s Dyke, it makes sense to start your trip with a visit to the Offa’s Dyke centre (five minutes’ drive) to find out about the ancient landmark. For other walking trails, head to the Elan Valley or Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (both 40 minutes). For a closer look at the natural world, plan trips to the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre (25 minutes) or stop by at the Red Kite Feeding Station (40 minutes) to see these splendid beasts in flight. The Spaceguard Centre observatory (10 minutes) is also worth a visit if you’d like to find out more about the skies overhead. Castle outings are part of the landscape for trips here too – perhaps to the impressive 13th-century fortifications of Stokesay Castle (half an hour) or the art-filled rooms and colourful gardens of Powis Castle and Garden (50 minutes). If you’d rather skip straight to the garden strolls, try Hergest Croft Gardens (25 minutes).
